I bought this off a member off SM and I was never told that the honeycomb was damaged. Will this affect the performance of the AFM?

Also the threading looks like it is broken on the inside? Unless that is how its supposed to look. It looks worse a little lower, but the camera died so I cant get the shot. How far is the screw supposed to go in? I thought it was supposed to unscrew, but it just pops out because I think the threading is messed.

kyle, get that seller to refund you and send it back. the honeycomb isn't supposed to be damaged as it will act funny due to the missing flow. and if the thing just pops out, chances are he screwed it in too far once and stripped it. return it bro. man i feel bad for the luck you're having lately...

lol ya, bad luck eh.

Well I may be wrong about the screw. I thought the screw was supposed to screw out passed the opening, but I guess the farthest it goes it is to the surface, if you can understand what I am trying to say. I can screw it in really far. To allow more air in, I want it screwed out as far ass possible right? What if I just take the screw out entirely and block the hole?

Is the honeycomb replaceable? If so, I would rather just keep it and replace it with my stocker.

its not that bad guys. if the whole honeycomb were damaged is one thing but its just a little corner. get a toothpick and you can smooth it out. people have run the car already without a honeycomb at all.

the screw is fine also. the threads are designed to allow the screw to pass all the way across that passage.

I agree, you could easily straighten out the little bent parts and even if you didn't it is not going to be a problem. It's not in the middle which is good.

Doesn't seem like too big of a deal. Considering the LIPP AFM doesn't come with the honey comb or electronics. Your supposed to just swap them out with the ones in your OEM AFM.

How much did you pay for it?
If it makes you feel any better, I have an unused one I bought years ago from SS back when they sold for $250. I ended up not even using it. Today I'd be lucky to get $120 for it. Now that sucks.

Yes you can use the OEM AFM's honey comb and electronics. That's what LIPP expects you to use, hence why it isn't shipped with either.

FYI- The LIPP AFM is actually slightly smaller than the Lexus AFM. However, not to the point where there is noticable power loss.

ah I see.

Is it a bad idea to use 680cc injectors with the lipp afm? I have all the other supporting fuel mods, im just afraid the 550's arent going to be big enough. I just want to play things as safe as possible.

isnt there a rule to how much hp you should have compared to the size of your injectors?

You do use the one from the stock unit in ths SS one. It is made that way so that you don't have to buy one from the Lexus unit. I don't believe they are sold serparate, only with a new complete unit from the dealer.
If you look inside you will see that the chamber is much larger than stock. I don't have the percent of how much larger it is. Also the screw is used to control fuel cut, so if you remove it you will not like what you will end up with.

What will I end up with? I thought I was just adding more unmetered air into the afm?

Winner....more like $130 loser.

BTW- The rough rule of thumb with injector sizes is 1hp at the crank per cc of flow. So your OEM 440cc's are actually good for more than 400hp at the crank. Problem is, old injectors with high mileage have the risk of uneven flow per cylinder and damaged flow patterns. However, having them recalibrated and flow tested can easily remedy this and is much cheaper than buying a new set of 550cc's and a lot safer than buying a used set 550cc's. RC Engineering chargesd around $25 per injector. Only downside is the week or two downtime to get the injectors back. However, if you have an extra set of OEM injectors laying around, I would send them to RC.

If your interested, I have an extra set of unused recalibrated and flow tested 440cc's. Sent them in with my Nippon Denso 550cc's. I even still have the flow sheets for them.

Let mw know if you need them.

yes hte screw allows more unmetered air in and this helps get around f/c for a few more psi. however this does lean things out some (still under 11:1) with the screw backed out all the way. if you remove the screw comepletely you are letting in both unfiltered air and also more unmetered. the bottom bypass is designed to allow each car to be "tuned" some to help compensate from car to car with the variance in engine and ecu parameters. leave the screw in.

Send them to Cruzin Performance instead of RC. He has all the same equipment as RC, you get a complete data sheet, and a set of injectors seals ($30 worth) is included, for $14 per injector. He did the injectors in my 7m and a bunch for our customers, and the turnaround time was fast.

Guys, relax, you can use the lexus AFM without the honeycomb at all. I've only
had the honeycomb on 1 of over a dozen MKIIIs I've personally owned and I
never noticed a difference.

You DO however need to have a K&N filter on there, no running it open.
