Did the Lexus LF-A Set a Nürburgring Record?

07-12-14-lexus-lf-a.jpg

If Japanese magazine Holiday Auto is to be believed, the Lexus LF-A has put in a dominant performance on Nürburgring, lapping the track in 7:24. If true, it would make the LF-A the fastest production car to run the ring.

This comes on the heels of Pagani Zonda F setting the record in October of this year, with a 7:27:82 lap, which bested the Porsche Carrera GT by just two tenths of a second.

A very impressive feat, but it’s going to take something a little more official before I believe it.

I think it looked better when it had the black padding on it. I also do not like the tri-exhaust.
After the death of the Supra, MR2 and Celica - basically, their sporty cars, Toyota has been in need of something really worthy. I hope that this, in some way, delivers.

Thats pretty sweet

For comparison:

7:24 -- 169.65 km/h -- Lexus LF-A

7:35* -- 159.86 km/h -- Nissan GT-R, 473 PS/1724 kg (*mfr. estimation)
7:40 --- 161.22 km/h – Bugatti Veyron
7:42 -- 160.52 km/h – Ford GT
7:42.9 - 160.21 km/h -- Corvette Z06
7:45 -- 159.48 km/h -- McLaren F1

Id say that puts it well into Supercar territory. Glad to see Toyota finally got on the Nürburgring list. Now another question, is this LF-A's final configuration(probably not). They may have to add some features that slow it down in it's final production configuration.

doubt it with their way of going for the throat these days (new tundra is a good example)

Toyota is a force to be feared if they took the family gloves off...

Also, is that the old or new ZO6?

Perhaps in 09... Sometime.. And it's going to be a Lexus.. not a Toyota.. (LOL Sure, as if everyone thinks they really are different companies..)

No matter what, it is not a replacement Supra. That name appears to be discarded by Toyota for the moment.

A shame too, it has great history for them. (And they should just build a 4 seat coupe based on the IS350 platform, give it V8 power, and put a Supra badge on the car... What? Can't think outside the box there Toyota? LOL

Better yet, get with Eaton for one of those new 4 blade superchargers, put that on the corporate V8 for 500 easy rwhp, add in a brake package with the SCV8, and build the base model as using the IS350 V6 engine/trans combo and the brakes they have.

Hello? Toyota? You listening? This would be cheap, and it would sell like crazy, especially if you keep the price under 50k for the SCV8 version, and about 38K for the V6.

Look at the market the G35 and 350Z have captured. They sell quite well, and it's just based on existing sedan floorpans, so the development time is minimal.

ding ding ding!

drop the tundra motor in something smaller and they'd have a winner...

The HP wars are back on, and Toyota is only competing in the truck market and not anywhere else...
