My mother in law has a '01 RX300 which has a 3.0 V6 FWD. The local dealership, Lexus of tampa bay, has had a very bad track record with her.... Everything from forgetting to put the oil cap back on, lose air box intake pipe clamps, to them using cheap cheap oil filters and charging lexus prices. And the worst was the day after we picked it up BOTH front wheel bearings went out and the wheels almost fell off going down the highway to Tallahassee. They pulled the trans to do the rear main oil seal... but had it for a week so I'm sure they wheeled it out of the bay and ruined the bearings by not having CV's in them. Toyota dealership in tally even said it was lexus fault. Lexus wanted us to drive it BACK down to tampa so they could fix it... the toyota dealership was practically yelling at the lexus people saying it's EXTREMELY dangerous. The front wheels had 1/2" of play! But heres what they did now:

They sent out a Tbelt "special" offer in the mail. I've been telling her to get the Tbelt/Water pump job done soon (she's at 85K). The special was to have the Tbelt job done for $500, which is a GREAT price. Well come to find out.... she drops off her car at 1pm, and picked it up at 4:30pm. How the flipin Freak did they do a Tbelt job in 3hrs? .... :nono: they didn't. it's got a brand-new Alternator belt on it. and the tbelt cover and stuff don't look touched. the bolts look like they never had a wrench on them, the wiring harnesses are factory fit... they didn't touch it basically. I saw the invoice.... they charged her $500 for a Tbelt job. the invoice doesn't say anything about a Alternator belt. only thing touched is the Alt belt. They ripped her Arse off good. she's taking it back monday. Theres no way they did a timing belt job on a V6 FWD Lexus in 3hrs. we had other garages quote us $700-1,000 to do the Tbelt/Water pump job. I've done enough Toyota Timing belts to know this Lexus of Tampa bay is full of crap.... like every other time she takes the car there. I just can't beleive a Lexus dealer would charge someone $500, have the car for 3hrs and say they did a Timing belt job... and all they did was the Alternator belt. communists.

i think the best way to protest is with your wallet. as in dont take the car there. a toyota dealer can work on that car just as well. and who knows, maybe you could even find a good local shop(not a dealer). whys your mother in law putting up with this?

b/c she only knows how to deal with dealers or somin. we all keep telling her DON"T GO BACK, but she keeps going back. So now i'm going there tomorrow with her to argue it. and get her money back. complete bs. Oh, and while it was in for the 3hr timing belt job, they replaced the broken power antenna. So they did a power antenna and Timing belt job in 3hrs. theres one for the record book.

Actually it can be done in a little over an hour. How do you know the timing belt wasn't done? You pulled the timing cover?

It is a 1MZFE engine? If so, no need to change the water pump either. That is a shameless ripoff many engage in, under the premise of, since you are in there, might as well do it.

it's a 3.0 V6. not sure what the engine name is. Is that motor really easy to do a timing belt on or something? why doesn't the water pump need replaced?

Even less, with doing just the timing belt some of the lead tech's i work with can have it done in 25 minutes and even with the water pump its still a little over an hours work.

Yup, we've had techs do 26 hours worth of work in a workday before.

You live a Ramen noodle lifestyle if you book 8 hours a day as a tech. Average t- belts where I've worked pay 3.5-5 hours, but they don't charge full labor rate. V8's are more involved, and if you really want to see techs scatter like cockroaches .....bring an MR2 turbo in for a t-belt.

personally I'd report the dealership for advertising that they're using toyota/lexus oil filters and putting crappy stuff on...

I would think they could have their dealship license revoked and have toyota come down on them pretty hard...

that wheel bearing crap would have been my limit though...
