hey guys:1zhelp: . i found a leak under my 87 N/A:cry: . right now im just waiting for my cuzin to bring over the big hydro jack so i can check where it is. However, i took a look at the fluid and it doesnt look like oil but more of transmission fluid. Yesterday when i drive it there was nothing wrong with the steering but this morning when i turn the wheels there were noise and it only can be heard when wheels are turning. So i look at my PW/ST resevoir and find that it is low. So to my conclusion that it has to do sumthing with the powersteering component. But till i raise the car up im not sure. If anyone had this issue or kno and can give me any advice that would be helpful. Thank you!

sounds like maybee the pump is going.... might be making that noise if the fluid is low (it needs to be at the correct mark on the meassuring stick, and it needs to be atf fluid) check that, and if that's fine and it's still making the noise, your pump is probably just getting old... if the rack is leaking, or the pump is going bad, i'd recomend just taking the belt off till you can fix it. That will #1 take pressure off of the rack (which may stop leaking) and it'll help you further determine if there's still a fluid loss problem, ect.

Right now I am having a simmilar issue b/c my rack is leaking. It only seems to do it while turning full lock to the left. I think that it is a small leak and it more or less squishes out when turned that far, but I agree that low fluid level will definatly cause a whining pump even when not moving.

You have a power steering system leak (should be filled with ATF...NOT power steering fluid!!!) The leak is likely from a hose, or one of the boots are torn and it is leaking from there...check the hoses coming from the reservoir...there are two.

The reason your pump is making noise, is because it is low on ATF fluid, because it is all leaking out somewhere! :biglaugh:

My cuzin came and i crawled under and got like 3 drops of ATF in my right eye T_T.i took out the cover and couldn't find where it was leaking. But my guess is this hose thats about a foot long and it has a outside rubber cover it but there was no bracket on either end and i could slide the rubber hose up and down the metal one. The hose it connected to this piece with rubber cover and mine is ripped. srry if i made it confusing b/cuz i dont kno what it is called. And there was fluid around the end so my guess is that hose. and i figure out y there was the noise but thanks to all of yall advices. i was just thinking of getting 2 brackets and tied up the end of the rubber hose on the outside and refill my resevoir with ATF. Thats all i can think of right not. i hope that i am right about that hose. But b4 that i have to get my other cuzin to look at it first cuz he has a 89 and 92 turbo and he knows way more than me. im only 17 and this is my 1st car so i dont have much experience about them. i' ve only worked on his supras couple of times. well BIG THANK to all of yall advices.

yep, auto tranny fluid :icon_bigg always reference the tsrm for correct fluids (pluss there should be a label on the p/s fluid resivoir that says the type of fluid to use)
