Leaking Water Hose - Where does it go?

I've had a slow water leak for a while now, and a couple of days ago it allowed a little air into the system when I was pushing a little harder than usual. I can see the leak on this end, but I can't tell where the hose ends up. The hose looks like crap, needs to be replaced, and looks like a biotch to get to, so please help me out here. You can see the end of the hose on a fitting just below the thermostat housing, and above/to the left of the water pump in the picture below. It's a bit blurry, but you can just make out the hose clamp. The hose then goes back and 90 degrees to the right, past the exhaust mani heat shield and straight to the block. There's the background, and here are my questions:

1. Where is the other end? Is it just past the heat shield? I can't reach or see back there even though I loosened up the PS resevoir.
2. What do I need to pull off in order to get to the other end?
3. How much easier would this be to do with the engine pulled? My 5 speed swap is coming up in the next few weeks, I hope.

That's it. Picture's below. Let me know what you guys think...

Well I just pulled up the schematic from the TSRM, and it looks like whatever doesn't go to the heater is diverted and returns here from the back of the block.(?) I can't tell if there is a soft line all the way back, but I don't remember one. Does that help?

Why do only the hard to get to fockers ever leak????

Going from memory but I think its something like this on the back of the water pump housing. A pretty big bolt holds it in on the back.

Thats a horrible drawing I know. The right side is supposed to be the water pump pulley bolts the center is the housing and the back is the bolt..

So given the choice, would it be a hell of a lot easier to do this while the engine's out for the 5 speed swap or just as easy to do it now?

Keep in mind I will drive VERY gently for a week or two, only to work and back, and I will be out of town on business for half the time anyway, or am I making a bunch out of nothing? It just looks like it's going to suck trying to get to the back of the water pump housing, and if it would be any help to have the engine out, it would be worth it.

when that hose went out on me, i removed the ps reservior and the entire water neck. it made it a 30 min job total... take it off and take the hose to autozone, they have one from a for truck that needs about 1/2" trimmed off one end that works great. cheap too :)

I would remove the CPS and p/s reservoir, and it's bracket. If you remove the water neck, but not the CPS, it will make it almost impossible to see the nuts holding it on...in fact I don't think you can take the water neck off w/out removing the CPS first. If you do remove the water neck, you'll need a new gasket for it...or you could just FIPG in it's place, but that's not how I would do it.

It's not that hard a job...The hose clamps, and sliding the hose off, and getting the new one to slide on are the hardest parts, really.

I don't think I'm actually going to have to pull the CPS. I got the front half off, and I'm pretty sure I can get the backside off, too. If I can, then it would be a piece of cake to use a squeeze clamp to put the new hose on.

We will see if I can pull it off, but I just hate messing with the timing, since I don't have a timing light that actually works and I've only seen it done once.
