Leaking hatch

ok, I was fixing the Hatch open lever today... had to remove the license plate tail light area and to find out the cable head just slipped off the lever. SO, I continue to oil and work on that stuff and then notice theres water/rust on the hatch itself. i took the trim panel off the hatch b/c the rear wiper doesn't work and I was right there... there was water up in there. like condensing under the trim panel. So I'm thinking the water is leaking throught the hatch itself... my guesses are the wiper arm hole deal, or through the spoiler-hatch bolt holes. Anyone been down this road? Oh yeah... FYI under the spare tire is lots of surface rust. I pulled one of the gromets to allow anymore water that gets in to escape as a temporary fix. Also today, I pulled the driver side fender spoiler section. had TONS of leaves and garbage under it. I cleaned it up real good and when I went to put it back on, I used some blk Toyota RTV on the snap peices to make sure they seal up good and water doesn't leak through those things.

You are correct about the wiper and spoiler ounts, another place to check is the lower rear windshield trim piece, If that's loose, it fills the trunk with water.

how do you fix the wiper arm deal? I'm just gonna use toyota blk RTV again for the spoiler mounting holes. this rear windshield trim peice, exactly where are you talking about? inside or outside of the car?

Another thing to check is the seals on your tail lights. Do you get condensation inside the lights? Mine were bad and I had a large pool of water in the spare tire well.

my tail lights look dry. My mk2 collected water in the spare tire well. Never did figure it out... just pulled one of the grommets, problem fixed:) But on this '90 I wanna do it right.
