LC-1 Wideband - extended bung?

I'm installing my Innovate Motorsports LC-1 wideband O2 sensor and the only bung that the kit came with was the "extended" one. This leaves very little of the sensor directly exposed to the exhaust gases. However, I did a little research and read that the extended bungs extend the life of the sensor in harsh environments (high heat, very rich exhaust gases, etc.). Should I use the extended bung or get a regular one? I'm just worried about the very little exposed sensor area, but I guess Innovate knows what they are doing .

you probably barely get readings, but then again not sure, i bought one for my tercel with the turbo motor i had, and worked great, and never had a problem with it, and i had it on the top of the elbow. and never had problems on the very hot days

After a little more research, the extended bung is used more for applications in small diameter pipes (less than ~2.5") to provide less restriction to flow. Considering this is going in my 3" downpipe, I just cut the bung in half and welded it in like a normal bung. I'm not sure why Innovate is including the extended bung by default now, but I thought I would post my findings for anyone else who is interested.
