"Over the last 105 years in the saddle, we've seen wars, conflicts, depression, recession, resistance and revolutions. We've watched a thousand hand-wringing pundits disappear in our rear-view mirror. But every time, this country has come out stronger than before. Because chrome and asphalt put distance between you and whatever the world can throw at you. Freedom and wind outlast hard times. And the rumble of an engine drowns out all the spin on the evening news. If 105 years have proved one thing, it's that fear sucks and it doesn't last long."

I feel the same way about my cars...

I cant stand harley but I love riding. Being in a car is just a different experience, not better or worse just different. A guy at my work goes on about how he loves harley and its the only bike worth riding, american pride and all that. Of course hes never rode a second in his life and has been dreaming of riding/owning a harley since he was a little kid. He gets mad when I show him harley products passing by, all with made in china right below the american flag and stuff.

They need to change it to american assembled, serviced, bought and idolized not made.

Well, if you love it thats all that matters of course. Just its not the bike for me, nor is it an american made icon machine. I get sick of hearing people go on about how its american made, its not. Look at the back of all the faux chrome products in the harley shop, they are not american made. I have a friend(who rides suzuki) that works in the harley factory, they assemble parts not manufacture motorcycles.

Sales dont mean anything or wed all concede that britney spears is the best singer in american history. Import bikes out perform and out price any thing harley can produce, besides the image/brand. That image equals sales to people who dont care about the price tag and want an image.

My gf laughs at the old mid life crisis bankers who get on harleys with the full catalog of matching harley products as they leave starbucks....

~edit, speaking of holding value; price a used ninja250 for the last 10 model years and see how well they hold their value.

Harley is a completely different style bike than what you are talking about. That is like compairing a 67 impala to a 69 442, speed and style are 2 different things here. Try cruising on a Gixxer or Ninja for 3-4 hours, doesnt seem as pleasant as cruising on a sportster.

You have some valid points. What is actually made in the America any more? Those mid life crisis guys, well I'm one. I'm not a banker nor do I match products or drink $tarbucks. I wanted something different not a metric and not per say "classic" Harley. My V draws more sport bike attention than anything. As far as Import bikes out performing and out pricing anything Harley can produce. Well Andrew Hines rides a very fast bike that happens to be a Harley, mid 6s @ 190 plus. not two shabby for a V twin. Value well I bought my bike a week later than a good friend of mine bought his 08 Bussa (another mid lifer). Unfortunately he damaged his bike...guess what that value went out the window. Me being stupid doing 7000 rpm launches/John Force burnouts. Laid my bike down last week. Same insurance company, hell the same agent! I had to ask, what if...?? My bike still held its value (or should I say it would take a lot more to total it). Granted my bike did cost a few nickels more.:biglaugh: I don't have that faux chrome on my bike its low black and mean with a fatty out back. The running joke with Harleys is HD stands for "hundred dollars".. Guess it's all those "mid life crisis" H.O.G. member bankers..

Really this thread is about the feeling of freedom, that feeling you get when everything is working, money in your pocket and not a care in the world. Being on the open road doing whatever you want to do because we are in America..........:drink1:

Well, it was.

And I should have know that some import vs domestic bullshit would start if I posted it...

All you import bike guys, you know when the mustang crowd starts running its mouth about how your Supra is rice. That's exactly what you sound like to a Harley owner...

And with that, this thread's spirit is broken, so I'll put it to sleep before it gets even unpleasant.

Typical.
