Late 88 with a 89+ block factory? Possible?

So my question is could my car have come factory with a 89+ block? I know they started making 89's in August of 88. My car was built in June of 88. While changing a hose i noticed my engine block was the later casting, and i went back and looked at all the records of the car, and it never shows it getting a new engine or any kind. It does show a rebuild done by a shop in the Woodlands, TX. However the stuff listed is just whatd youd expect rings, bearings, machining, etc. doesnt list a new block or core engine. The number on the block matches the number on the service records.

So is it possible that Late 88's came with the 89+ block? Or does my car have some hidden history somewhere in its life of having recieved a used engine.

Thanks

Doubt it. As 89's come with the baby block (from what i've seen) Hi Poodles.

Maybe the old owner brought in a core? lol

Well thats not 100% true Bluechulappa has the original motor in his car and its the later casting. His build date is November of 88.

Some of the transition parts are a bit odd... Do you have the lower redline? Wonder if it has the old or new crank...

No i have the 6M crank, the block is the same as 89+ blocks. I have the older style coolant rail as well.

Blocks didn't change at the same time cranks did. Cranks changed for 1990 model year (08/89), blocks (apparently) changed earlier than this.

i have an 89 that has a 6500 rpm redline, the non liquid motor mounts, and it had a 7m crank. what is going on here lol? where does the rev limiter cut out at on the pre 89 compard to 89+?
