7M-GE. No start. It turns over, but never catches.Timing marks are correct on the cam gears and on the crank pulley, the problem is in the distributer. The metal thing is pointing to the #4 plug wire instead of the #1 at TDC. I removed the thing that spins and makes contact with the plug wires, but I can't rotate and bolt it down where it should be.

Do I need to remove the whole assembly, puke oil all over the place again, and start my timing over from scratch? :aigo:

Yes. Make sure your engine is set to top dead center - Crank pulley set to 0, cam gear marks lined up straight up, and you should be able to see the piston right below the spark plug hole if you take out the number one spark plug. (I believe the crank pulley needs a 19 mm socket) Use a break bar with this socket to manually turn the engine over until all of the above conditions are met. Then remove your distributor and face your rotor (thing that spins) to the number one plug wire. You may need to do this a few times until it's right as the distributor may spin slightly when you place it back in. Do this and you should fire right up. Don't forget to set your timing when your done. Good luck

You have to take out the bolt, pull the distributor up untill you can feel the gear free up, you don't have to pull it completely out. Then turn the rotor until it's pointing at #1, of course you should have the #1 at TDC, the gears all lined up. So yes you have to do all the steps to get everything lined up and in time.

So the whole thing comes off? Will oil spill everywhere?

Just pull the distributor out a little. Oil should not spill everywhere - The cylinder head is not full of oil, the oil drains back down into the oil pan as your car sits. Loosen the one bolt and get it done - just do it, do it,....do it.

Mark where #1 is on the dist. itself, before you take the cap off. Then, when you pull the dist. up, you know where to set it. You want to go behind your mark a bit, as the gears are cut at an angle, and the rotor will turn as you put the dist. in.
