knock sensor

what is it for? do i have to have it? is it hard to replace? when i checked my codes the ecu i throwing a knock sensor signal.

It "hears" knock/detonation and will retard the timing to prevent engine damage.

A lot of the time the wiring is faulty on our cars, Shaeff posted an easy to follow repair guide for this.

Yes KS's are good! you need them they're your friend!

well the car sat for 6+months and i just started it today and its got half a tank. should i add alittle clear rubbing alcohol and some injector cleaner and check the timing to see if it helps. its my new 86.5 na with navy blue interior ya know just like yours i posted pics under my new supra check it out.

what is it for?
The car runs a "closed loop" ignition timing circuit. Closed loop means the computer is responding to its own control. The computer will advance the timing as far as it can with out detonation. The sensor is needed to do it. This is why your owners manual says for improved performance, use 91 or higher octane. The timing can then be taken out further.

Drain that half tank of gas. It is hit or miss at this point.
