On the harness im cleaning up both knock sensor wire's are cut . there is about 4'' left on each wire coming from the harness. I bought coax cable and will have it exiting in the original spots. i would like to know how much wire i should leave. :1zhelp:

I believe it is 7 feet, to have proper slack, but that's going off of eyeballing it and "guesstimation"...
Ask shaeff. I've built a few harnesses but it was a long time ago. He may still have some to measure for you.

i have two 8' cables with knock sensors on each end ready to go.

the 2 spots on the harness that are between the injector clips has the 2 original brown knock sensor wires. you can see them in the pictures. what is the measurement between that and the connector?

Sorry to partially thread Jack, but I'm having a similar problem, but I don't have the ends that connect to the sensor, anyone know where I can get them?

Toyota still sells that connector. I have a couple still in the bags. Gotta go to my garage tonight, I'll get the part number for you.

If you're turbo, you need two.

Thanks Chris, saved me from trying to remember that when I go to my garage. haha

What's the right cable to use? I ran out and need to buy more. I think my red car needs a rewire.
Ok, I kind of remembered. I used RG58a/u last time. I can't remember if mine was solid core or not, and that's all I can really find.

I did find this stuff though: RG-174

It seems to be smaller overall, and have stranded inner wire. The only downside I see is the inner wire is 26awg, whereas the RG58 has 20awg.

Yes, ground one end for sure. Don't do both, you want to avoid ground loops.

I just realized that the stuff I had was RG58. Don't embarrass yourself by asking for 10base2, that's a very old name for it.

The nerds at the store will laugh at you. It's a bad feeling. haha

So wait, how can I rewire it? And what do I go to the store (what store?) and ask for? I may can reuse the clip I have, and how do I ground it?

Man I feel like a major thread jacker but it'd be nice to get back that lost performance
