my buddy/mechanic looked at my car and when i checked with him he listed off 5+ gaskets/seals that are leaking oil all over my engine and told me i probably need a rebuild.
I want to eventually get 400 or so horses and ft/lb's. what all should i replace (should i get new pistons, etc, etc) when i do my rebuild? basically, do i need to replace all my internals with forged shit or just some of them or are the stock internals strong enough for this race application?

Stock internals will hold 400WHP no prob. But if you like the feel of power, which I'm guessing you do.. 400WHP won't be enough.. You will want more.. If you are going to pull the motor for a rebuild I would say do the internals. If money is an issue you could have the stock rods shot peened and use them. I would definitely replace the pistons though. It really depends on your goals and how much you can afford.. I would do it right the first time...

well wut gaskets and seals are leaking???

if you are serious about going all the way to 400 hp it is better to do it on a good reliable platform. I know the stock internals can handle that power but only if the car is in good running order. The condition of your stock internals will have to decide how far you can go on them and what you will have to replace. You dont need to go all forged internals for 400hp, it depends how much boost your going to run and how you are going to go about reaching your goal.

what are you using your car for?

like mhopemk3 said stock internals can handle 400 whp anytime stock pistons can be cryoed and the stock rods prepped and 500 whp can be run anytime.....there are some members running over 500 whp with stock internals... it all depends on your setup too and a good tuning... what are your mods....??? goals for the car??

i trying to make an auto-x/track (not a drag car) car (yes, i know, kinda HEAVY for an auto-x car), and so what i'm shootin for is good torque at low end. I really just need a nice fat powerband. when i replace the turbo, i'm not putting on some monster (*cough* laggy *cough*) turbo. i don't plan on going above 20 or so psi. I want it to be streetable (for now, at least), but still have enough power to play.
