Keys cut at dealership?

Hey,
If I go into the dealership can they cut a key from my vin so it matches the car perfectly? Before I always had an old key matched and cut but it's not as sharp obviously. I was just curious to know if Toyota kept the cuts on file as Honda does when I had them cut a key for me for my old prelude.

Yes, Toyota will do that. You will need the VIN AND proof of ownership, so with your insurance card & title - $20 later I had 3 new keys.

if it helps you any, i had a key cut from my dealer here in Tallahassee. I actually pulled the passenger tumbler (already had the door panel off). there's a code stamped on the tumbler. That plus the VIN got me my key, no problem, perfect fit. hope this helps. GL!

Hey thanks for the replies. I'm actually trying to get into this abandonned supra I found. I was hoping if I got a key cut I could get in without breaking anything ahaah. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get a hold of anyone that knows anything about this car. I was basically told by the dmv that because the car is not abandonned on my personal property, that I can't try and gain ownership; which is pretty gay. Anyway, contacting the current owner is being extremely difficult also as he may have an unlisted number and the only lead i have won't pick up the damn phone and his answering machine is only about 8 seconds long! GOD! I had to vent, I'm trying to save this damn car before the city tows it and sends it off for junk. I also found out today by looking closely that it has about 396,000km on it! It's turbo auto. I don't know what to do, maybe this car is destined for the garbage :nono:

So you want to get a key cut to break into a car? I wouldn't advise it.

Yeah that was basically what I wanted. I knew it would be a bad idea, and without an ownership it's almost impossible. I think this car is out of my grasp.

Props to you for trying so hard to save a Supra from destruction. I suggest you ask the city or municipality where the car is at and ask them which towing service they use to remove abandoned cars. Then all that towing service, and ask them if they sell abandoned cars. Chances are you'll be able to pick it up from them at a good price. I've already done this in my neck of the woods. I certainly advise against trying to gain entry into the car on your own. Could land you in trouble with the long arm of the law.

How can they sell it though? How would it be different then if I towed it myself with a trailer? When they tow do they become the owner? I'm not sure how any of this city stuff works.

My dealership here can only cut keys if the car is a '90 or newer I believe it was, maybe '92.
