Key falls out of ignition

Hey guys, when I put the key in the ignition it's fine, I can turn it on and off. But the key falls out to easily, If I hit it with my knee or hitting a speed bump it will fall out of the ignition switch while it's still running and then turn off. This might be a stupid question because I'm new to this but how could I fix that? The key I used was just made, I used the one the precious owner gave me and the same thing happens. I don't have the original key, because the guy who owned my car before lost it and had to just use the spare, so I'm going to try to order one from Toyota. But would that make a difference?

ya it's a common thing with supras i think... i can remove the key with the car running if i wiggle it just right.... i have no key to open my glovebox, and i got locked out once and had to change the driver's door lock, so none of my damn locks match.... one of these days I'm going to get a complete set from toyota and have all the locks on my car replaced.

Both of my Supras did exactly what you're talking about, I had Toyota cut a new key using the keycode loacted on the passenger door's lock cylinder...it fixed the problem entirely...the key now feels very snug in the ignition.

How much it cost? And my key for the doors is different from the ignition lock.

I think sometimes it's the ignition switch itself that's worn down, sometimes the key sometimes both. I've only had 1 supra out of 4 where the key didn't come out when it shouldn't.

On a side note, my friend recently got an 88 toyota pickup and I saw his key looked similar to my supra's, so I tried my key out and it starts his truck!

What are you guys complaining about. The fact that the key comes out of the ignition is the best factory feature ever........lol:biglaugh:

My car does it too!! My mk2 before as well!!! Both of my GTS Corollas did it!!!!

What the problem???? You dont have to turn off your car to go into the store, check your mail, or get back into your house. Very nice in the cold weather. (It would however be nicer if I drove my car in the cold)

I thank Toyota everyday....................................lol :biglaugh:

All the keys I have are all copies of the original. But I don't think it's the keys are the problem, I had to go move my sister's car and I was curious to see if my sister's corolla's car key would fit in the supra's ignition, and it did, I started it up and all. So I'm gonna order a new ignition lock and keys from Toyota.
