Ok, I run MAFT, so it's not of real importance to me, But K&N clearly states that its cotton gauze filters do not filter. The oil on the gauze filters, the gauze is only there to hold the oil.
That said. Who on here can attest to the oil from your K&N ruining your AFM?
I've never heard of it until the 7m engine bay thread, where I chastised members for running dry K&Ns, which I always thought didn't filter.
So, any proof of the oil being bad? I've always run it..

I remember in the FIPK brochure that it said the oil is used to collect the initial dirt and from there the oil and dirt complex collect more dirt and that is why the filters are so efficient. I oil my filter all the time and no AFM problems.

On hot wire afm's the oil can collect on the element enough to cause problems. It is common with 3.4 Tacomas. A little brake cleaner makes it better. You need the oil do stop the fine dust.

i would think that brake cleaner would do more harm than good. it's quite abrasive.

Let's go Pens!!
I thought you should use throttle body cleaner. Thats what I have used on the mass air flow sensor on my celica. It's got a Injen short-ram and I oil the filter. I just cleaner the sensor every few months. No problems. On my FIPK I havn't had to clean that filter yet...

oh, i know that brake cleaner kills AFM's, i was just assuming that since you have a hotwire system, that it's ok to do that. (i dont know anything about the hotwire system, as i have a lex afm)

but,

BRAKE CLEANER KILLS AFM's. :)
