Hum. Doesn't sound normal at all. U may wanna take the accordion hose off for a looky see. Or maybe a loose exhaust manifold or turbo mounting bolts (i doubt it, but u never know). At any rate, until you find out what's the cause, stay off boost.

There is some side to side shaft play but no in and out. Also, there was a drip of oil right at the onpening. Considering that i have little experience in turbos i can't judge how much is too much play.

Anyone have a second opinion?

Look for signs of the blades rubbing against the casing. Any rubbing, and it's turbo rebuilt time. I imagine it could also be a exhaust leak somewhere around the manifold/turbo area. Anyone else wants to chime in?

yeah, i think it sounds more like a boost leak.. thats atleast what mine would do when i had a leak. It would also peg rich and have sucky mileage hahah.

I just watched your videos and I dont think its the turbo dude. Thats why I was kinda surprised when you told me. Idk if you've sorted it out yet but the lower IC pipe on that car always gave me trouble. Loosen the tbolts, push the pipe sections closer together and re-tighten...that pipe starts to sag/come apart. That little drip of oil on the compressor inlet is also normal...nothing wrong with it. So is a little side to side shaft play if the turbo was relatively cold. You should check all the couplers but after the lower IC pipe the other one i'd look at would be the 3000 pipe/throttle body coupler. After that check for loose manifold studs like someone else said. I've heard that sound a few times with that car in the past and it was never the turbo and was always a boost leak. All things considered, if it is the turbo, im sorry and didnt knowingly sell the car to you like that but you came and drove the car etc. Like I said I dont think it is though but if it really is, its not that big a deal to change it out. Hope you figure it out! If you have any more questions let me know.

Thank god, it ended up just being the lower ic connection. It does sag a bit, mostly because the pipeing that goes to it needed to be just a bit longer. It was definetly the problem though because the noise went away for the most part..

BTW, a stuck sensor is causing the birdcage.
