Ok so I had a thread up on mhg vs composite and arp head bolts. Bought the car for 1500 with 145,000 mines iv been thinking about doing a engine rebuild because of the unknown engine condition and to be make sure the engine is good before I start modding

The engine runs mint no knocks or ticks. Great oil pressure.

I took the valve covers off today and found arp head bolts. And the cams look brand new no scores or nicks at all

Now knowing that it has arps in it I have no idea if its mhg nothing on the car look like it was cheaply done so it might have a mhg. Do you think I would be safe to put 550s and Lexus with about 10 psi

Thanks. And one other.question did these engine come from the factory with the hooks mounted to the engine to lift it out ?

You can see some of the head gasket along the side of the engine between the block and head. In particular, there are some common locations for the gasket to protrude, and the metal head gaskets will have layers, and possibly visible rivets. Take a look along the side of the engine, and that will at least tell you if there is a MHG installed. If it is, with ARP hardware, I'd probably just run a block test. If it's good, then it's likely going to remain that way, so until or unless you want to build for more power, maybe leave it be?

I guess it depends on if you want to trust that it was done right, including the bottom end, which you'll have no idea about unless it starts knocking.

Why not just drive it and enjoy it. Since the car is new to you keep an eye on all fluid levels, Epecially oil. Instead of tearing down a great running engine to check condition.. I would get a oil analysis kit from someplace like Amsoil. This will tell alot about enternal engine condition. And if you get the kit from Amsoil there is a phone number to call if you have questions about results. Good luck with your supra.

stock bolts are tough as shit... unless you're building a monster of a drag car... then maybe ARP's are in order... in any case, just check the torque on them, if it's adequate, you should have no issue making a decent amount of power (400ish) with no issues regardless of HG type... unless your tune is complete shit, or you're using a AFC or FCD, then have fun with your melted pistons ;) (hey, it happened to one of my engines)
