Just bought second supra... already stranded :p

Just got a supra, it's got everything I want:

Turbo
Targa
TEMS
soon to be 5 speed

previous owner has all receipts for EVERY oil change, all body work, every time the light bulbs were changed, up to the machine work and head gasket very recently

the car sat for a while and had very little gas in it, I filled it up and began driving home, 60 miles later the car began to drive funny bogging up and down, and began to rise at temperature.

Pulled over, let idle for a bit, then shut off

would not start

when cranking again the temp guage shot all the way up as high as it would go

after letting it sit for 30 minutes it would not shoot up anymore but would crank and crank

checked fuel pump... makes noises sounds like it is working

checked fuel rail by opening up the nut on top, expected a shower, got some fumes and small bit of gas

I think this leads me to the fuel filter being clogged... does this sound right?

it makes sense because as the car began running bad every time i opened the throttle and let air in it began to rise in temp fast, because of running very lean

any other ideas? I'm changing the filter tommorow

gotta love being stranded by the supra before even registering the thing ;) good thing I love these cars

and BTW it was towed home and is safe in the driveway, I would've rather slept in it than let it sit there all alone

It looks like there is two filter types... a "sock" on the fuel pump and a regular filter above the differential

I have found info on changing the one about the differential, but not about the strainer on the pump, does anyone have any help on changing this? Can I get to it from the fuel pump panel in the hatch or does the tank need to be dropped?

The tank has to be dropped to change the sock on the pump. There is a write up with pictures in the new articles section. It's not as hard as it sounds. If you plan to change them both, wait til the tank is out to do the differential one, you'll have a lot more room.

How long did the car sit before you bought it? And where are the pics?????????? Where are the details?

It's on the pump, you can't miss it. If your going through the hassel of droping the tank I would personally change the pump too. but that's me.

might also want to consider getting a new cat after you change out the filters. running lean makes old cats start to melt inside, and you will most likely fail Massachusetts emissions AND get stranded again, lol.

i'm getting 3 inch eventually

I learned a trick to pass emmisions for older cars with no sensors to fail you

just get the cats as hot as possible and spray a hose right into them, they spit out the guts but it looks like your car has cats anyways

I'll do that till I get a full 3 inch with high flows

as for fuel pump, i want to go walbro so if I can get a good deal on one i'll definately do it now
