-Head gasket - 100bucks
-misc. gasket
-ARP head studs - 200bucks
-resurfaced Head - 150bucks
-Fresh Mobile 1 Full syntetic Oil and new Oil filter - 70 bucks
-new oil return hose - 150 bucks
-NGK spark plugs and wires - 150 bucks

Here is a video of the engine:

Can anyone tell me what that noise is??? That knocking type noise???

The problems:
A odd loud noise in the engine bay (see video^^^)
There is a vacuum leak somewhere...
It needs a new battery
The power steering does not work (hence the no power steering fluid in the reservoir) By the way - would I need a new power steering pump? Or can I flush it?
It has a cherry bomb muffler and I am not too excited about that. Whatever.
And basically needs a lot of TLC

Can you guys give me some heads up on what to look for when I go see the car and some advice on the problems listed above.

Thanks!!

lets party... :: rave ::

Here are the problems:

An odd knocking/rumbling noise in the engine bay (see video)
A vacuum leak somewhere...
Needs a new battery
The speedometer stays at 50 MPH, it moves up but it needs to be fixed - Any ideas????
No power steering - the power steering reservoir is dry. By the way do I need a new power steering pump? Or can I just flush the system??
Needs a lot of TLC in the inside
Hood struts are shot
An obnoxiously loud cherry bomb exhaust

I am going on Friday to pick the car up, can you guys give me some heads up on what to look for and some advice on the problems listed above??

Thanks!

Funny thing about that sticker, come to think of it, my friend who put money down is a honda owner. The best part is is that he didn't even know what "the shocker" is!

I pity the knowledge of the honda owners. NOT! haha!

Update;

She's running well! I found out that that low odd sound is the muffler pipe, the previous owner cut that pipe right under the passenger seat, it sound very aggressive, but it definitely needs a new muffler.

QUESTION!! What should I do with the new muffler? Should I do side exhaust (right in front of right rear tire) or keep it stock and run it to the back? Your opinion and feedback would be appreciated!

I also found out that the power steering pump works just fine! However there is a leak/hole in the returning hose... That's going to be fixed.

The previous owner told me that there was a vacuum leak, he didn't know what he was talking about. There is none.

AHHH awesome work. I'll be following this. My 1990 has a lot of similar problems. Including that knocking clicking sound while idleing. I haven't had it checked out yet but I was just going to go 1j or 2j. This one is a nice project. You making this your daily? second? or a race car?

run it out to the back, do at least 3" all the way back. remember you dont want any unwanted attention from the cops

At least 3" on a N/A? That's just silly.

Go preferably for a 2.5", you can go for a 3" too, but then you need a big silencer. Go with OBX header and a test pipe too.

Mine sounds like the same deal... but mine does have a knock that you can hear when you first start it up. I was driving the car and thought that fan shroud came off and was hitting the fan. Got out seen it was comin from the bottom end... and we'll yea it sucks...

But my guess is either ways mine is gonna need new bearings and all that good great stuff...

To be honest the problems that I listed are really not problems. I listed those before I had gotten the car and they are turning out to be flawless! WOO HOO! I think I am going to keep it 7M, modified slightly, but trying to keep it stock as much as I can, besides the exhaust system. This car, eventually, will become my daily driver which will rock!

So take out the original exhaust and all?

You don't have to of course, but the sound, looks and performance on the originale exhaust is not very good.

Best exhaust setup for a 7M-GE:
2.5" cat-back
OBX or Pacesetter header
Test-pipe

I thought it was a turbo car at first(it was late) I edited out "from the turbo back" and it didnt click to change pipe diameter.
my bad, I ran 2.5 on my n/a with obx header and test pipe.
it sounded amazing

So an update to all.

I am still in the process of cleaning and the car is looking better and better at every swipe of the cloth. :naughty:

Here's some pictures of the car now;

The Camry on the left is currently my DD. :runaway:
p1455642_4.jpg

p1455642_5.jpg

The problems to fix;
- It still needs it's muffler and the other stuff that goes with it...
- There is a major leak in one of the power steering hoses, the question is I can't seem to find it but when I turn the car on and turn the wheel I go to check the engine bay and it's sprayed all over the exhaust manifold cover, charcoal canister. I am assuming it's not the return hose because it is not under pressure like the other hose is.
- I need an air filter, no biggy, but the one I took off was blacker than black. That filter was clogged with just about everything under the sun. :nono:

Enjoy!
