EDIT:
i edited my post for validity reasons, after seeing what lagged said it brought a good point so:

Check the timing, check the hoses do as lagged said below, Check the oil levels and check if theres coolant in the oil and hell run a compression/leakdown test as well :)

ermmmmm if i were you i wouldnt touch the head bolts. first of all, they WONT be near 85lbs. read up on retorquing the head THEN decide if you want to take the chance.

if your car dosnt show any signs of a blown head gasket then i wouldnt touch it. if you want to start modding, then the first thing you should do is pull the motor out and have it rebuilt with a metal headgasket.

do a complete tune up and pressure test the cooling system to try to spot any leaks, external or (yikes) internal.

Here is a link to the Toyota Service Manuals

http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/techtips.html

Note that our cars are prone to head gasket problems.
Perform all normal preventitive maintance to get it running correct, test to make sure you do not have a head gasket issue.

Plan on replacing all hoses, belts, fluids, standard tune up type items.
As you incounter problems, there are a lot of quality people around here to assist.

Welcome to owning a supra-

^one thing he forgot to mention.. start preparing the sowing needle for the holes in your pockets.

Also wouldnt hurt to start saving up for a BHG fund or Rod Knock fund because as with alot of supras they might not of been treated well by the prev owner and will if not already have rod knock or a bhg..

if that indeed is the case dont freak, take your time and do it right. If you do it right you wont have any problems. Otherwise you will :)

Good to see another 87. Mine needed a bunch of new hoses, new injectors, new turbo, head gasket, lower control arm bushings, steering rack, bypass valve, and now wheel bearings.

It's an older car and will need plenty of tlc, but can still be a very reliable daily driver or race car(drag, SCCA, ...). I even plan on taking it on a trip to Orlando this summer(about a 10 hour drive).
