Hi Guys,

Just wondering who runs the JT58 Series turbo and if they could share their opinions on it? I also had some questions:

- Did you go with the ball bearing option (I think hybrid motorsports charges $625 for it)
- What boost are you running?
- What kind of injectors are you running?
- At what rpm are you reaching your full boost?

Basically, any info you can supply at all would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mark

I have this turbo and it's great! I was running some 680 injectors (580's now) at 19psi making 429rwhp and 446rwtq on pump gas. With race and some more boost and better tune I'll hit 500rwhp with ease.

I get 19psi by 3800rpms and it pulls all the way to redline. The ball bearing will make it spool a little faster however it's not needed because it's already a smaller turbo.

I'll be in the 11's by the end of next month.

Those are great numbers. Would you mind listing your mods?

So, do you think it's not worth the extra $625 being charged for the ball-bearing option?

Thanks!

I run the jt-56 smaller than the 58 but they are similar.I run 550's and currently run 15psi.I haven't dyno'd,but it pulls very hard.I would not get the bb option throw that money a maft-pro.I make 15psi around 3400ish rpms,I can even make positive pressure free reving :)

I have:
3" turbo back exhaust, dp and cat back,
680's now 580's is plenty
JE pistons,
NGK wires/plugs
LEX AFM
HKS SAFR
titan HG with ARP's
turbo xs mbc
fmic with 2.5" pipes
Tial Q bov
Koyo Radiator
Custom intake
Greddy Catch Can
Walbro Pump
Aeromotive AFPR

That's all the main points of my motor as of now.

I would reccomend going with a Electronic boost controller though, boost will come up faster. I'm going with the AEM.

No I don't think that it is worth it at all to go with the BB, you won't need it.

Awesome, thanks for the replies guys. I have a Blitx electronic boost controller already installed and my mods are very similar to yours already frontierguy, with the exception of forged pistons and any form of tuning.

I think you guys are right about skipping the BB option on a small turbo as it does seem like a lot of cash I could use elsewhere.

Currently I have:

Stock CT26
Defcon 3" downpipe (eliminates stock turbo elbow)
3" HKS Dragger
High flow cat
550 injectors
Lexus AFM
Spearco IC with hardpipes
HKS intake
HKS BOV
Blitz EBC
FJO Wideband kit
HKS 3000 pipe

This setup only made 248 WHP and 290 FT LB at 14.5 psi on the stock turbo.

My plan is to add a new turbo (probably the JT58 or a GT35R), MHG, ARP studs, walbro fuel pump and an aeromotive AFPR.

I know this bolts up to the stock manifold but have you ported the manifold for better flow or switched to an aftermarket manifold?

I'm hoping I can make numbers like you listed above frontier!!!

Thanks

It's all about how much you want to spend, with the GT35r you are going to have to buy a new manifold, and a new downpipe, where the JT58 will bolt right up. Make sure you get some sort of fuel management like a SAFR or SAFC, or MAFT Pro

what a/f at wot?

those seem way low. if you get a afpr and afc you should easily be able to break 300whp. i'm betting your running way to rich.

I'm down in the 10's at WOT which is way too rich. I was going to get a tune but now I'm going to wait until after my build is complete. I have been looking at the Stinger EMS.

if you have the cash for a standalone... go for it!

I can afford the Stinger and from what I've read on this site it should suffice for my needs. I can't afford anything over the top like the Motec systems. I have a SAFC II that I haven't installed yet but I'm selling it. I've talked to some local shops about tuning it and most of them say they will only tune standalone from now on....not sure why.

The Stinger is good, only reason why I didn't go with it yet is because it doesn't have a launch control feature. the AEM does and the prices are coming down on them. I've been looking into the MAP ECU2 as long as I can figure out the timing, if I can I'll have it.

timing increase from jacking with the afm signal. The intial cost to get a drivable tune is where the $$ is at. Very hard to do on the street.

Id get a jt turbo if i was in the market. If anyone is going to abuse it more its the guy posting above me ;). if it has lasted for him id be confident with using it.

Yes it does. It has both 2-step and anti-lag. I've used both of them.

Which model did you use? I have a 7M, I would love to have those 2 features!! I'll buy one asap!

Grim, I've called you a couple of time and left one message from my new number. I'll pm it to you. BTW, I don't abuse the turbo or car, I just drive it SPIRITEDLY, and just to make sure the turbo does well at those boost levels! LOL!

Just the stinger 4. Best ECU IMHO just because it's so easy to learn/tune. It's great even if you're knowledgeable with no standalone experience. Anyone can tune it, and the power is limitless. I used it on a 2JZGE-T with a 7MGTE harness/electronics.

How was the daily drivability with the stinger, because this is my DD as well.

Driveability was great. There are some tricks to keeping the car running smoothly (IE NB02 with 5% feedback). The car was very reliable and started every time. I really enjoyed having a MAP based car.

and to everyone else who is wondering about these turbo's jeff stands by his work trust me ive talked with him on many occations and was planning on using the jt70 bolt on before i found my current turbo set up or rather it found me for the right price basically, now i just need to get my motor done again and slap that bia on......hopefully by tx2k10 but we'll see what time allows me.
