I have worked with two great installers who have been doing installation for years and years each...

One recommends a Makita jig saw, says its the best one out there,

the other says Makita sucks ass, and would trust only the Porter Cable.

does anyone on here have any input to add? I need to pick one up soon, maybe for christmas....

LOL - you betcha, but it's not going to help. I prefer DeWalt.

To be honest, both Makita and Porter Cable are decent as well, and any of them is likely overkill for a hobbyist.

hah, the last shop I worked at used a 'shop use' DeWalt. I really didn't care for that one much, I had to replace the trigger a few times. The guy who recommended the Porter Cable is probably one of the best installers (12v Custom) in Wa state, so I really am taking his advice to heart :)

I had the chance to use his saw once. It was great, but I can't be sure the Makita is not better... and I can't find his specific saw anywhere to buy either :\

I've used porter cable and craftsman, and heard good things about dewalt. I really like the craftsman I have, never had any problems with the porter cable though.
