However it appears these asshole's missed the message:

Woman Says Church Threatening To Make Sins Public
POSTED: Monday, December 15, 2008

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A divorced Jacksonville woman said her former church has threatened to "go public with her sins" and tell the congregation about her sexual relationship with her new boyfriend.

Rebecca Hancock said harassment from Grace Community Church in Mandarin over her sex life caused her to leave, but she said that didn't put an end to the problem. She said she received a letter from the church's elders telling her the church plans to make her personal life very public.

"I'm basically run out. I'm the church harlot," Hancock said.

The 49-year-old said she has been dating a man for a while and she said members of the congregation at Grace Community Church haven't been happy about the relationship.

"Because I have a boyfriend that I'm involved with … to not be married to that person is a sin," Hancock said.

She said the issue caused her to leave the church. However, she said the church has not let go of her.

The letter Hancock received from the church states that because she has refused to end her sexual relationship with her boyfriend, "you leave us with no other choice but to carry out the commands of the Lord Jesus Christ" … "In accordance with Matthew 18:17 we intend to 'tell it to the church.'"

"On January 4, my sins will be told to the church, publicly, with my children sitting in the church and my friends," Hancock said.

The pastor of Grace Community Church, Dr. T. Scott Christmas, told Channel 4 he had no comment.

Pastors with whom Channel 4 spoke on Monday said announcing a sin to a congregation is not abnormal. They said it's written in the Bible to punish sinners who continue to sin.

The difference in Hancock's case is that she has left the church, and the pastors said that's is usually where punishment ends.

Despite the church's letter stating its biblical backing, Hancock said she has backed out of the church and they should leave her alone because she is no longer a member.

"I am a Christian, and that will never change. My relationship with Jesus has to do with me and Jesus, and he knows my heart," Hancock said.

The book of Matthew does have three steps that the church talked about in taking action against a member who is in sin.

Hancock said she is now attending a different church, and said she is planning to send a letter to Grace Community Church to make sure it's understood that she no longer a member.

And these people wonder why year after year, the rolls shrink and fewer and fewer people seem to be able to take them seriously.

Poor leadership, constant conflict, pedophiles, cover ups and political games... And in this case strong arm tactics.

Sounds just like Washington D.C.

she could just buy a vile of christblood and it would be straight.

jesus was awesome. he should be celebrated as a humble, iconically peaceful and idealistic martyr of love and good will. son of god? methinksnot.. but historically he did exist w/o a doubt and he had a great message. the catholic church sucks. they got it all wrong. they just couldnt stand the thought of any government (rome, uk) becoming more powerful or influential than them..

I was under the impression that Jesus was the forgiving type. I wonder if that church has morality detectives and police? It is great that they are publicizing what should be a very private thing, not just to their church, but due to this news article, the world.

Worthless excuse for a Church...

Yeah, let's take the line out of context. The full context is if someone sins against you. If she was sleeping with someone else's husband, then the actions would be accurate.

....and another religion bashing thread is born...

I've held up a shoe, do you claim it fits you? This is about a bad "church", not necessarily a bad religion. Anytime you run across some atrocious atheist behavior, you're more than welcome to post about it. If its out of line, I'll gladly join you in stomping on them too.

What this thread does illustrate is that some people seem to miss the point. Some of the most "christian" people I know are avowed atheists, and some of the biggest hate filled jerks I've ever met are loudly religious.

This is simply an example of that.

Not really saying your post, as you're always tactful...

I just see this thread going to to the same place they always do.

Why does she care if they announce her "sins"? What difference will it make, anyway? I would just leave and not look back.

Of course, that's just me tho, and I don't care what other people think about me...especially religious ones.

I'd suspect she has to live near and work with these people. Her children's friends will be there an hear it.

I don't give a flip what other people think of me, but I also realize that most people don't feel that way.

There's just really no good excuse for publicly humiliating the woman. She's already left the church, if you believe in a god, let him do the judging...

Classic "holier than thou" attitude from the church which feels her actions must be punished.

Seems like they, themselves do not believe some "greater power" will take care of the punishment, so they will need to create their own form of punishment to prove themselves right.

Organized Christianity seems about as failed a group as any I know of...

Her "sin" is her sexual relationship with a man that she is not married to. Would you like it if your kids heard from your priest that you were a slut, sleeping around unmarried? Because that is how the church is going to put it, they wont just announce it like you have been with this person for a while, they will make you out to be a dirty whore.

I personally wouldn't want my children (that don't exist) to hear that. Maybe it is just me.

BTW, that church is fucked. Nothing catholic or christian about it. Just seems like some morons that follow every word in the bible. They probably believe Genesis to be true.

i agree completely. thats what i was saying when i brought up jesus' fundamental message.. which is basically general morality, and a new, greater emphasis on forgiveness and purity. he did away with the 'eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth' way of thinking, and thus Christianity is based on he NEW testament's set of values, as opposed to the ten commandments of the old testament. you dont have to believe in or confess to anything that cant be physically proven to you, (if you possess the intellect, you havent the ability to truely believe something that hasnt been proven to you ;) ) but the human conscience is innate.
