JE rings - lettering up or down?

Anyone know if it even makes a difference? I can't see any kind of indication that one side or the other should be up...

Usually marks go Up Dave!

Thanks IJ. These are actual letters, still, can't hurt to face them up, and that's just what I am going to do.

Dave: Marks = letters ie: "Markings" sorry I do the abbreviation thing without thinking sometimes

The rings are designed that way so that the gases and pressures of the combustion actually go behind the ring and push it out against the cylinder wall creating a "seal" between the piston and the wall. This causes a more efficient power stroke of the engine.

Chriso: Yep and I'm old enough to remember "Gas Ported Pistons" that had tiny holes drilled down through the crown to behind the ring to achieve the same result

(I may even have my old Jig for drilling them here somewhere in the shed)
