anyone know how to take off the hood lifts? since it dosent fit on a usdm, the design is pretty different on the bottom.

i couldn't find any info on the hood lifts, but i recently purchased a hood and it had tokico lift struts, im trying to take it off but dont bulge dosent have a metal clip like usdms, im not using that much force, unless i take off the whole unit, but it prob wouldn't even come off still.
any suggestions?
Thanks.

to remove the OE hood lifts use a 14MM iirc at the end of the shock in the engine bay then you can loosen it off the hood.

not the usdms the jdm ones, they are tokico, has a hole on the bottom for a bolt or something and the top is jst one piece not a metal clip holding it tight.

Are you sure your just not confused with the year maybe. My 90 has the original lifts (I know that they have never been changed, car has been in the family since new) and they are tokico's and dont know about any clips that your talking about. They have an eyelet in the bottom where a bolt goes thru into the inner fender well and on the hood, there is a ball stud that is part of the lift and its threaded into the hood. There is a Hex on the ball stud. Its a 12mm Hex.

i meant the usdm has metal clips on them,
so your saying i have to remove the ball stud and replace a new one?
how does the bottom part connect to the car? since it has a hole through it like it needs a bolt or something.
any pics on the bottom part of how its installed?

theres no metal clips. when you get new struts it comes with the struts the bolt for the bottom that attaches to the inner fender and the ball thats on the top part the gets screwed into the hood. there needs to be a special bolt for the bottom and you cant pop off the top.

I haven't bought new lifts yet, but the ball stud for the top (hood end) should be there. As for the lower, Im not sure cause from what your decribbing, the ones you have would work fine on my car..

Here are a couple of pictures of the lower attachments on my car.

The top is the ball stud which is part of the lift. There should be a Hex made into it so you can unthread it from the hood. Atleast that how mine is.... I'll get a pic or two... They are 12mm Hex on mine....

The metal clips he's talking about are common...as most people have replaced them with the parts store struts which have the clips (makes it MUCH easier to remove the hood BTW)
