And so it begins, the long story most of you guys on here know better than I do. The hours slaving over a single car like it is your baby. I have begun the process of rebuilding a 1987 Supra. Car is currently 7M-GE which spun a rod at 133K mile; in the process of conversion to GTE. Eventually she will get the Lexus AFM and 550 injector upgrade, and some ballin straight-pipe exhaust :evil2:. Sits in Louisville, KY. Work is being done by myself (some lol) and mostly by supraguru05 (cause Kyle is the man). If you see either of us looking for parts, please help us out :1zhelp:! Now for the pictures of the car before...and yes, I did buy it with all that junk inside that trunk.

So...I guess a bit of an update is in order since I'm still waiting on my block to return from the machine shop and almost nothing looks like it has been done to the car, minus the fact that the engine, tranny, driveshaft and just about all other powertrain/drivetrain parts are out of it...

So far, I have bought just about everything possible for the stock turbo swap, minus the actual turbo and a few odds and ends. Got myself some eagle rods, wiseco .020 over pistons along with all kinds of ARP's ready to bolt this mofo together. Block sitting at Haas machine shop ready to get its bore on.

I guess thats all for now, hopefully getting some pictures up soon as I get some more stuff in (I think the UPS guy and me are close to getting on a first-name basis) and do more stuff to the car. Thanks to everyone who has sold me parts so far and who will in the future (tanner_pimp101, mkiisupraman18, empera, wes_harrison, prism1 and anyone else I have forgotten).

Block has returned! Hooray for me! $1200 worth of machined sexiness now sits on and around an engine stand... More pictures soon as we unwrap and begin to put it back together!

Here's a few teaser shots of the block:

no idea, the machine shop did the studs on both sides so i would imagine they did that for me, everything is ARP's so it should be straight lol

Head is almost done being put together, just some final measurements for shimming if needed, HG and adjustments. Looking to get the short block assembled by the middle of the week :evil2:.

thanks!

update on the engine:

basically, i was going to paint the block gold (to the dismay and disbelief of many, including myself) however, I'm so lazy I didnt feel like driving 3 miles down the street to O'Reilly's when AutoZone didnt have gold engine paint (fail btw)...so its now going to be red and black, a combination that will go with the car (eventually) when i paint it black in the spring...

Waiting on HG from Titan, and Oil Pump from DriftMotion ro arrive to finish short block assembly...

Just wondering what work was all done to the block in order for you to get that high of a machine shop bill. PM me if you can :) Thx!

that machining bill includes like almost $300 in bearings for the cams, crank, and rods...

i had it bored 0.020" over with the torque plate installed, decked (both head and block), everything was cleaned and checked for tolerances (lots of labor there, but worth checking)...I also had two different blocks checked, one ended up having a crack in it that i couldn't use so that was about $150 for that extra work...:( so it was really only $750-$800 for the actual machining

overall, it was clean as hell and everything was done really well, it was definitely $1200 worth

(if you really want details, I still have the receipt and can make a copy for you...)

Wellll....just a quick update while my computer is down with the swine flu...

Nearly complete motor and tranny went in without too many hitches this weekend (actually a little after 8 sunday night lol). Went from sitting next to the shell to in the mounts ready to bolt up in under 15 minutes. Shows how many times Kyle and his dad have pulled and replaced a 7M lol (and I'm still a learner). Waiting on a few more parts (still need a CPS if anyone is selling one cheap) then it should be running by the end of the week. Pics and video of it running will be on here as soon as HP realizes they actually do have to honor the warranty on my laptop :3d_frown:....

Then its brakes, wheels, tires and a custom shorty downpipe (as well as a very very thorough shakedown) away from hitting the streets!

And now the new pictures since I've gotten the motor in, plus plenty more stuff. Car should be able to start and rev this weekend. Then swapping in the power steering rack (love how stuff breaks as you are almost done) should have it to the DMV monday or tuesday so we can break it in over Thanksgiving Break!

Ive been somewhat waiting to post this, so that barring any immediate problems my car wouldn't be down when I post the "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" lol...

Well, she's back on the road! One more MKIII has been resurrected from the dead and given turbocharged life! Still a few things left to do such as finish breaking in the motor (car only has 164 miles on the rebuild lol), finalize my ghetto-fab exhaust (ran out of money, downpipe to muffler and out the side :naughty:), and make sure she's happy.

Be sure to keep watch once this thread re-awakens in the spring, I'll show all the details (with more pics) of the painting and suspension work.

It only takes 20 miles to break in a motor...run the bitch hard and get sone vacume on the rings...seat them good and fast!

I don't understand why people "baby" new motors!?

haha, i wouldnt say ive babied it! the ring break-in was done correctly, revs and all! its pretty much done breaking in, the only thing left is a pair of oil changes up to 1K miles to where all the assembly lube and other crap is flushed out...i really only baby it when its cold so i dont scuff a piston lol

well its been a while since ive posted anything about my car....really thats good cause i havent broken anything yet :biglaugh:

But i figure i might post up some pictures of the custom exhaust that me and a friend of mine made one night. Basically, its kinda ghetto lol. Starts with the stock turbo elbow, then its 2 1/2" pipe MIG welded from there down to approx where the cat would have been. This part was made by supraguru05 and used on his track car for a while. He now is getting the 3" megamouth from Zankokou as partial payment for his services on my car lol. Anywho....the rest of the exhaust is 3" aluminized steel from summitracing that a friend and I fabbed and TIG welded to the stock rear location. It looks pretty damn good if I say so myself. At the end (not in these pics but I will get some more) is a Hooker 3" maxflow muffler, I'll get a sound clip soon as well as some more pics but here's some teaser shots during construction.

I broke mine in the same way once she ran right. And so far, it sounds beautiful! I love how smooth it is!

So btw... I think you have my car's long lost twin... in a different color. You're trim is broken in the exact same spot on the driver's side, and I bought mine with a rod-knocked n/a, and it came with almost all of those exact same parts in the trunk, with nasty sawblades on it... LOL Creepy... :runaway: I just have a broken/scratched front from the previous owner not quite using an engine hoist right.... :nono:

Bring it to the May Va Meet!

dude thats ridiculous! lol, i think we do have long-lost brothers!

yeah the sound of my car i absolutely love, wish i had a good audio recording of it cause its sweet, and about to get better once i get the 3" downpipe welded together. runs like a champ and except for the random code 11 with some grounding issue i have to work out, i have no issues with it! other than the usual things for a 23 year old body lol

im actually getting into position to start working on paint here in the next couple weeks if it ever decides that spring is here...car is going to change colors and get quite a bit more sexy! stay tuned... :)
