May not be the correct place to post this. If not, I am sorry.

I just finished my five speed swap. Cranked up the very first time. I had to adjust the clutch pedal, but other than that everything was/ is perfect. It may not be a big deal to you, but I will sleep like a baby tonight. I have been worried to death that my car would never run again after taking out my auto transmission. Just for those who don't know, I am a carpenter, not a mechanic. I do however have walking around sense, and know how to search on here for answers. That doesn't mean that I am above asking questions. I have found out in my thirty five years of living that if you don't ask you won't ever know. (unless you search for the answer yourself)
Thanks alot for reading this. I feel better all over more than I do anywhere else.............................I just thought I'd throw that in there to see if you were paying attention.........;)

Thanks Joel, but I've played baseball a hundred times and I'm not a baseball player...................lol

Calling me a mechanic might be jumping the gun a little, but I do like the vote of confidence.........lol

This is a parts list of what I remember buying. Somethings I didn't have to buy, but I did anyways, cause I love new parts.
Zoom clutch set.............382.80
Aluminum flywheel...........427.75
Rear seal........................12.40
Rear main seal.................10.99
Clutch covers for housing..151.00
Dust shield for housing.......11.77
Shifter lever bushing...........4.49
Shifter sub assembly..........10.60
Shifter gasket...................29.01
Boot shifter......................12.40
Lucas gear oil...................20.00
Master cylinder.................75.00

I know there are numerous parts I'm not remembering, and I may be off a dollar or two on a couple of parts, but this is pretty close. My grand total so far is $1723.21....But, if you look at it this way it's only $345.00 for every forward gear................;)

a couple of questions for you................
1) Should I change my fluid after 500 miles like I read somewhere? The transmission fluid is what I'm refering to.
2) Is Lucas 90wt. gear oil a good fluid to use in a manual transmission. If not, what do you reccommend?
3) Is 500 miles long enough to break in a clutch?
4) How long would it take a rooster sitting on a door knob to hatch out a hardware store?

congrats on the swap. I would have done the TH350 swap for that kinda coin. Then again I'm getting older, and tired of rowing gears. I do it everyday in my daily driver.

Nope it should be fine for quite some time!

2) Is Lucas 90wt. gear oil a good fluid to use in a manual transmission. If not, what do you reccommend?
I'd go for something multiviscosity in a 154 as they tend to not want to shift when cold.

3) Is 500 miles long enough to break in a clutch?
Yes if it's 500 of stop start driving and NOT a 500 mile road trip!

4) How long would it take a rooster sitting on a door knob to hatch out a hardware store?

Kwnate, where did you get your flywheel? If it is an advertised price, they have to match it.

Does anyone know what type of transmission fluid is best. No one has an opinion on this subject. I really need to know.

Hello from a galaxy far away....

I'll come out of hiding long enough to add my compliments to SH as I know wrenching is not his forte. This kind of work with a successful outcome deserves accolades, not only for the skill involved (all things considered) but for the cohones to try it in the first place. You have every right to feel good about it from that standpoint alone. Well done indeed.

I'd go for something less than 90win the box....maybe RL MTL or similar.

Lol @ IJ for 42....

Thanks for the response IJ, and Jetjock. It's makes me feel better knowing I did it instead of taking it to a garage and having it done. Although I will say I would have never tried it if other people hadn't posted on here with their results and told me what to expect. It made it alot easier just having to read step by step instructions.

Kwnate, I only paid $385.00 for my flywheel. I got to looking at my receipts and the one with the flywheel had another part on there. Both of them together totaled the fourhundred and something dollars..... I still got ripped off a little since you got yours so cheap. I guess it pays to be a bargain shopper. I usually just see something I want and buy it.
Hope to get the clutch broke in and dynod in about a week. I'll try and video it so I can try again at uploading it on here.

IJ, How did you know it would take 42 to hatch out a hardware store. You are definately the smartest person I know. I used to THINK so, now I KNOW so!!!!!!!!!That's just unbelievable. No one else has ever got it right...........Damn

congrats! i remember the first time i fired up my car after the motor swap. i had the wrong engine harness in there, and it wouldn't start for the three days i was troubleshooting. (until i realized it was the wrong harness)

changed the harness, and it fired off as soon as i hit the key. i know the feeling! :) now go out and have some fun with it!

oh yeah, and i don't really live in a stop-and-go traffic area, so i broke my clutch in for 1000 miles instead of 500.

Good job..

Now all he needs to do is get resurrected from the dead and he will have Jesus by the balls.

BTW who told you your car will never run again if you take the auto out?
