Alright so yesterday i went to school and the idle was at like 500 and when i went to stop at a stop sign it stalled out.. all i did was shift from 2nd or whatever and hit the brakes... started up and still idle at 500...

after class start it up idled fine at like 900 or so... any thoughts on what it could be?

NDBoost said maybe the ISC is bad... i was reading up but i dont know where the isc is... any one have a pic? also my car does make a click click click sound after i turn it off... i read something about that in the search but didnt understand what that meant

The ISC is next to the throttle body toward the front of the car...attached to a flange on the upper intake. Warm idle should be 650 rpm.

I just had an ISC valve diagnosed and replaced by a tech at a Toyota dealer out here. The problem I had was that my car wouldn't idle when cold and would surge a couple times before it stalled. Once it warmed up it would generally idle decently but would still surge a little bit and it'd idle near 900 RPM when it decided to smooth out a little bit.

The way that the tech found out that it was bad was he started it up and had somebody tap on the ISC with a wrench (or something similar) and noticed that the idle tried to come up 2 out of 3 times that they tried it. Give that a shot and see if it works.

hmmm, 500 is too low and 900 is too high. Do you hear the isc make a clicking sound when you turn the car off? ISC's can go bad but it is less common then a bad tps. Check for codes?

Do you have a TSRM? It tells you in there how to trouble shoot some shit, to include the TPS. Not sure about the ISC valve. If you don't have a TSRM yet, it's time to make the purchase. Some vital stuff in there.

if you can, take that thing off and clean it with some simple green or something. alot of times(like mine) it was clogged up with carbon. in the TSRM it shows how to test it

The filter under it may be clogged up with carbon as well. You have to remove the ISC from the manifold (2 bolts) and the filter is under it in a recess on the manifold...it looks like a little spoke mag wheel. Don't try and clean it...buy a new one from Toyota.

To clean the ISC itself, remove it from the manifold and take the 3 screws off that hold the black electric valve on the flange. Be careful, the screws are easy to strip the philips head. Take some carb or brake cleaner and clean the spring/valve head...clean the valve seat side too on the flange. I wouldn't use Simple Green on the electric side...good stuff, but wouldn't want it getting inside the electric part. Reassemble by aligning the philips screw holes and tighten down a little at a time by going around all 3.

If it was carbon buildup I don't think it would be an intermittent problem like he described. Was it just your bov? How long did the idle stay low?
