well, i am looking to order an FFIM from Ron (cuz i get to keep the A/C). yet, i also like Seth's work on his conversion (yea, its not conversation). i have seen a few comments on the ISC being kept or removed.

exactly how much would removing the ISC affect the driveability of the car? i doubt it might affect it, but is there a possibility it also affects reliability and maybe gas mileage (doubt the mileage part since it only regulates idling, but better safe than sorry)?

Try unplugging your ISC, and then think about whether or not you need it.
If you have an auto, it is mandatory. (IMHO) but a 5 speed with no ps, no ac, etc.. it will be fine on "average" days.

the car is dismantled, so i have no way of checking. its a manual 5 spd, and i just might have fixed my PS problem. and i WILL be using A/C (i live in Puerto Rico ffs, and i have a love life).

does that help answer the question a bit more now?

:biglaugh: hehe thanks.

im guessing that without the ISC, the idle of the car when cold just goes a bit berzerk?

Correct,

From what sethron told me via pm about keeping the ISC....he has been running without his for a while...

but starting the car on a COLD morning....the car will not idle right....it will sputter and DIE.

that puts more strain on your starter to keep "cranking and cranking"...

I've been running without mine... I just set my idle to 800 rpm warm. I have to hold the gas and keep the engine idled up for about 10-15 seconds, then the idle will drop to 600....as it warms up, it comes up to 800...

works great for me :)

I took off my ISC when I got my sethron FFI. No real problematic issues, I have no AC. I set it to idle around 1000-1100rpms when warm. It will idle lower than that until its warm. It is quite bitchy about idling on a cold day until it warms up. Just gotta manually (with your foot) rev it to 1500 for a minute or two and its fine. Not that big of a deal and It helps get rid of some of the mess in the engine bay IMO.

what is a isc what does it stand for?

ISC = Idle speed control.

I run the stock ECU and not cold start or ISC. I live in washington and it has been in the high 30's already this year and she starts pretty easy as long as you crack the throttle just a bit and hold it at about 1500rpm for and 30 secs to a min. Mine will even idle fine as low as 700 rpm without it but I shoot for more like 850 - 1000 rpm just because mine tends to load up a bit when it goes lower, weaker spark, 550cc injectors...ect. So as far a running without it I personnaly think it is very asthetically pleasing the way it cleans up that area. But just my two cents. And as for the main post that with my FFIM you can not keep the A/C, THAT IS NOT TRUE YOU CAN WITH BOTH MY MODIFIED STOCK ONE AND MY CUSTOM LONG RUNNER ONE, JUST NOT THE CUSTOM SHORT RUNNER!!

Thanks,
Seth

i already had to press the gas a little bit during every morning WITH the ISC to keep it from stalling.....

i never turned on the A/C immediatly.

i usually waited until the car idled calmly and i was out in traffic.

also, after im done with breaking in everything by next year, i will be removing the stock ECU for most probably an AEM model. so should i just get rid of the ISC now?

I would recomend trying to get used to running without it, set your idle screw to get things running "normal" and then move on from there.

Yep, my car starts pretty rough as well even with the cold start injector and the ISC........LOL

I set my idle right at 1000rpm. It keeps the coolant pumping, the oil pressure up and the car idling fine....no missing or burbling

I come from a land down under
If you're going AEM you can use many different ICS's I'm using a Ford one with my Wolf Standalone it's a simple 2 wire hookup and a pair of barbs one either side of the TB.

On the last motor I had stable idle at 650 rpm no matter what accessories/temp.

i dont mind.... if its just a rough idle when the engine is cold, then i can live with it. i always take my time choosing wat cd to listen to before i drive out. also, gotta wait so the oil goes up to the turbo and such.

and other times, i just turn it on and go put the top on the trunk. so while i handle that, the car warms up.
