Is this worth buying?

so here's the story, I have a 1989 MKIII Turbo that I'm doing a lower end rebuild on, I bought is about a year ago for 1800 and upon inspecting the turbo I noticed it looked like someone threw a handful of rocks in it. I'd take pictures but it's at my Brothers right now which is two hours away.

Either way I obviously either need to rebuild the turbo or replace it, I'm thinking about replacing it, either with a bolt on direct replace, or a whole kit.

Problem is I'm not sure what I need to get, the engine is almost all stock I'm putting stock parts back in it, this is going to be my fun/daily car and I may race it some, however it won't be for dragging (I'll get another one for that later)

I found this here kit on ebay and I know that you don't usually want to buy stuff from ebay, that's why I'm asking... is that kit just alot of shine and will probably end up costing me more in the long run with repairs and such, or is it worth it.

If it's not worth it what's the best route to go replacing the turbo to get more power than stock.

When I get it rebuilt I'll probably have more questions for what kind of easy to do quick upgrades that will add to it.

Don't buy ebay turbo kits. Save for quality, you will end up spending more fabricating and fixing problems than you would with a quality kit.

First off, There is WAY too much garbage of the turbo kind on ebay. If you have a very good knowledge of turbos, you will know if it is a good deal or not. So, since you ask, I'd say you need to pass on this deal. I'm no expert, but I'd say the amount of stuff in that auction should cost a good bit more.

For your stated goals, I'd say some of that is overkill. Check out Driftmotion.com for good quality parts that are backed by this whole community, and very good pricing. Make sure you have a good quality rebuild, with special attention to the head gasket. You may want to get a metal head gasket to protect you if you goals change in the future. Be sure to do plenty of research on that subject alone. Get a 57 trim turbo, and maybe upgrade your fuel and intercooler system. Then you will probably want something to tune with (S-AFC or equivalent)

Yeah I figured there was to much garbage and bling with that kit, just thought I'd ask I've been surprised before.

I think my honest ultimate goal is to either get the car to show quality or, get a 1j and drop it in.
