Hey everyone:

Take a look at this video.
Ignore the text in the video and the miss etc - its an oldish video but the sound at the end of each pull is the same as now - is it compressor surge?
Its NOT coming from the BOV - it's coming from the turbo.
The BOV is opening - but it would seem too slow?
What are your thoughts?

From my understanding, the compressor surge sounds like a longer fluttering sound. It sounds like your BOV is working.

Sounds like a dip in performance during the transition to higher boost levels. Could be plugs, fueling, wiring, your EMS, or your present MAP program. Post up the dyno curve. In regards to your question, no, this is not compressor surge on decel.

so is that happening when the bov doesn't let the pressure off fast enough and the compressor is pushing air against the closed throttle, slowing down the wheel?

basically the way i understand it, whether its the bov not working or a kinked hose or what ever, the pressure in the intake that would normally escape via bov is send back to the turbo then forcing the turbo to spin the other direction, thus the noise. (compressor surge)

Yes.

That little bark you hear before the bov opens is technically surge.

The pressure change is so fast, the bov just cannot react quick enough.
It's normal though, as long as it's not prolonged you'll be fine.

Hey,
Thanks for the replies. Ignore THAT dyno and the missing as I've since change to a mitsi igniter and gotten rid of the miss.

In "that" video I'm running around 14psi (yes with 7M 440's but I'm a 1G-GTE)

Here's my dyno graph: http://www.supras.co.nz/pics/ecu/finished/dyno.jpg

I dont have a video of that dyno unfortunatly - but the "squeak" was still there while under boost of anything above 5psi up to 16psi (intercooler pipes blowing off limiting us really winding some boost on).

Boosted Supra: I'm not sure what you mean by anti surge. It's a turbonetics turbo from what I can figure out - no-one actually knows. Compressor housing looks like THIS but without the holes on the intake side. My compressor plate thing is red also, and the compressor wheel looks "very" similar to their styling.

I don't get compressor surge while under throttle - but only after the throttle is slammed shut

What do you mean by "prolonged"?
