.........between a '87 auto trans ECU and a 91 auto trans ecu. My brother had the engine and tranny replaced in the supra 2.5 years ago, and the engine/tranny was from a '91 supra (aparently). Im almost sure it was from a '89+ because the oil pan on the new enigine didn't fit my '87 cross member. The reason I ask this question is because my O/D light flashes while in drive all the time. I'd scan the codes, but I'm unsure if it would send an incorrect code if the trans and ecu changes are different fo the two year. FYI the the ecu in my car is still from the '87 trans. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

-Dan

i saw a thread once with the difference in years and i believe shift points were one of the upgrades/alterations as the years went on so i agree on that...

There are small internal differences in the transmissions. If the part numbers are different, than the programs in the computer are different. Even if they are small differences.

How's your speedometer working?

(The oilpan never changed on the Supra, however the engine mounts did. Early engine mounts won't line up correctly with a mid 89+ car, and would *likely* end up positioning it wrong enough that the oil pan may hit something).

The spedometer works fine, well, it seems to bounce intermittently...only when I'm accelerating when it's windy out and it seems. The oil pan in the new engine was molded in such a way that the crossmember sat in the middle of the pan. The old GE was designed so that the crossmember sat in the front of the pan. I wish I had a diagram, but I think you get my drift. Anyways, I have came to the assumption that the new engine was from a Cessida. Your right the motor mounts didn't line up up correctly, but the shape of both pans were completely different even inside....the new ones had baffle plates, where as the old didn't. And the last problem was that we had to extend the tranny wires about an extra foot or so to transfer them to the left.

The engine runs great. No engine error code are being sent only the tranny. I after I finish overhauling the interior and exterior the winter......Im going to start building up a turbo this summer. (I wan't to buy a short block from some one in Canada.) Hint Hint Jeff and Grim

I replace my ge ealier this year with a jdm low milage replacement.I didnt do the work on it. I had a local shop do it. My car is a 90. The shop told me they had to use my original oilpan and dipstick, as the one that came with the motor didnt fit.The only issue ive had since the swap is, now my car needs 6 quarts of oil to say full.I almost 100% the motor i installed was from a cressida, as i read somewhere thats they only way u can aquire a jdm ge.

I am did an engine swap in my car from a donor car i picked up very cheap. I have been having problems with it not wanting to start I noticed that the distributer plug was yellow not green. the part number ended in 11 and the old one ended in 10 so i also may have the JDM 7m. The reason it would not start was no pulse from the injectors. I swapped out the distrib and now i have pulse. I still have not got it running yet but i am still working on it. Now its tries to start but just sputters out.

That is exactly the same problem I had. I had a mechanic at a garage that I worked at help me out at his house. He worked on it while I wasn't there also, so I'm not sure if he had to change the fuel rail and injectors along with the fuel lines and filter as speed source indicates it may be needed to be done. Did you have any problems with this. My car runs great, idles great and everything else is...great! I'll be building up my turbo over the summer and next winter with full replacment of internals and a HPF turbo upgrade kit.

What about the ECT ECU. The one in my car is from a 87 Supra...NOT a '91 Cressida. Is there much difference. Somebody must know.

there shouldnt really be a problem, there has been many turbo swaps with different years like a 89 7mgte into a 86.5 but they had to use the 87 ecu and they seem to be running fine. Hopefully I dont have that problem with my swap because its comming from a late 89 and mines a early
