Is there more than one pump for fuel?

Just as the title says. I hear a humming from the back of the car and a knocking from the front of the car, when i move the ignition key toward the off position to the point where the motor stays on while the electronics go out, the knocking noise goes away. What im thinking is when i do the turn off sequence as i mentioned above where the motor is still on it turns off the secondary pump for the fuel. My suspiscion is there is, can anybody clarify this.

your suspicion sucks! :D

only one pump unless someone put in duals and it would still both be in the back...

my educated guess says youre hearing the ticking of the IACV when you turn the car off...

what is the IACV, i don't hear it when i turn off the car. Only when i turn the key to the point where the motor is still running, but the electronics turn off.

You should hear a series of clicks coming from your engine when you shut it off that sound similar to the slight clicking sound you hear from the injectors when the engine is running.

Your diagnosis could be giving you false ideas. The ignition switch was never intended to be held at certain points inbetween it's designed positions. You are probably just hearing one of the many electronic components that are being shut off in sequence when you are holding the key at that certain point inbetween positions.

If you are hearing any ticking at idle, it's probably your injectors. I would definately switch over to 15W40 oil like I was saying in the other thread. You may be experiencing what I explained happened to me in the other thread.

The humming you hear could be your fuel pump, but there is realy no way for anyone else to know, even with an mpeg of your car posted of it making the sound recorded. I wouldn't know what to tell you unless I was there and I could pinpoint the sound. It's more than likely your fuel pump, but it could be something else if the sound isn't coming from the back of the car.

The best way to diagnose an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle is to do the following:

-Identify what kind of sound it is (tapping, whirring, scraping, squeaking vibrating, etc.)
-Try to get a good idea about where on or in the car the sound is coming from.
-See if the sound changes with different running conditions like RPM change, vehicle speed, in gear, out of gear, clutch in or out, brakes applied or not, steering moving or not, different electronic components operating or not like wipers, climate control or lights running or not, etc.
- See if the noise causes the running conditions of the drivetrain to change (different gauge readouts durring abnormal noise, loss of HP or change in idle or harmonics and vibrations, etc.)
-Eliminate only the suspected causes that you know and are 100% positive that about it NOT causing the sound to occur. Never underestimate the cause of or ignore an abnormal noise.

-Understand what is and is not an abnormal sound for your car to make. Understand what each component should or should not sound like under correct running conditions.

Yes you are right it isn't meant to be in that position, but i accidently found it went away when i did that. It is apparent and very annoying to say the least. When i turn the key back on sometimes the noise doesn't come back on for like 5-10 seconds. It is some kind of tapping or like a pecking and kind of faint. It sounds like it comes from the back and the front, more in the front though. I am going to fill up my gas tank and see if the noise goes away. If it is my fuel pump then i guess the noise will lessen with more fuel in the tank. And i will try jacking the car up to see if i hear anything from there. It sounds like some kind of pump of some sort. Oil pressure is fine also.
