Is the W58 a forgiving trans?

well first off its not only my first manual car, its also my first one...as any new driver, i have my share of stalls/hard bucking/clutch burn(not to many, 2-4 times at most)...not that many grinds, i think 2 at most, but im wondering if the W58 will still hold up fine for atleast another week of this(started to drive 2-3 days ago)

any pointers on driving manual? like i do buck usually between shifts, but i been getting better..and off the line i rev it up a tad bit and ease off the clutch and wait till it catches, and adjust the gas/clutch as so...i noticed that today i have not been bucking as bad nor reving as high going from a stop, so i think i been getting better...

You have all the time in the world to let off the clutch. remember that when shifting.

ill remember not to let the clutch go as fast, i been getting better at that, i usually buck the 1-2 transition, but anything after that im good..i think its just because im nervous of stalling or something

yeah just take you time and dont worry about everyone else. and yes your tranny will be just fine i learned on my w58 and i sucked for the first couple weeks!

You should probably be more worried about your clutch than your tranny if you're "bad" at driving stick. Go practice in an empty parking lot where you won't get nervous or anything. Also remember some people are naturally better at driving stick than others. I've killed a car 3 times since I first drove stick at 10 years old, and one of those times was because my friend let me drive his Integra without tellin me about the stage 2 clutch he had.:3d_frown: At the same time, some of my friends have to buy automatic cars (no matter how many times I tell em to buy a Supra) because they just don't get the concept of havin to shift by themselves.

i've grinded the gears more than a few times, mis-shifted, had entirely too much fun...

so in short, yes, its a well built, strong, yet "flexible" transmission, i also run redline mt-90 in it.

and when you start getting comfortable, try and bark the tires from 1-2nd, its fun! hahaha

hell yes it is!! the w58 is also my first manual, and being my only car i had to learn overnight, I"ll be putting in the billyM bushings and changing out the trans fluid with redline, since i figured i funked them up with my noobness

i own an Turbo auto. but ive driving a good amount of cars with stick. it took me about 2 weeks. i wish i could of found a manual around here for sale but. i got the one i currently have in good condition.

W58 should hold up fine. how many miles does your car have?

Man I remember when I was in the same boat except w/ the R154. I had to learn to drive stick in my first car which was my purple Supra on the way to a new job.

I'm 16, my N/A is my first supra, and first stick car... all I did for the first few weeks was drive around the neighborhood a few times every day. Now im pretty decent at it, though I still get some jerks when i release the clutch goin into other gears, but other than that, I'm fine. I wanna learn how to chirp the tires though... I did it in reverse on accident the other day

im 22 and have a 88 supra 7mgte with a 6puck unsprung hub and it is like learning how to drive a stick all over again just drive and drive and then one day it will become second nature, and you wont think anything of it. i wont gt anything but a stick any more.

There isn't anything special to chirping the tires... In first, rev up a little and dump the clutch, there ya go. Going in to second, shift fast. Ta da

It is a good tranny to learn on IMO.
Strong well I snapped my bellhousing into 2 seperate pieces.

Yep, I've taught 2 people on my car, and they gave it hell, but mine is still fine and kicking ass.
