our 7mgte smokes on start up after it sits for a while... and if you let it idle for a bit and then hit the gas it'll smoke. Is that the turbo or valve seals? Car has 90K miles and a bone stock hair dryer, I mean turbo.

smoke is oil. I know it's oil smoke. lingers around... white with a bluish tinge. Even when the motors warm if you let it idle in the driveway for a few mins.. like say 3-4 mins... and hit the gas kinda hard to reve it... SMOKE! And YES i am running a cat-LESS exhaust system.

Could be turbo, it doesn't happen when its warm til you hit the gas I would almost say its a little bit of blow-by. *maybe* Anyone else agree?

Bad valve guide seals. Nothing major, unless you start fouling plugs. Check their condition.

Worn out turbo bearings behave this way. Putting your cats back on may help, if you're willing to give up the power.

I seem to be having a similar problem. The white smoke only appears after the engine has been revving hard. It stops shortly after if you let the car idle, but it will smoke again if you give it some more revs.

At first it seemed to be just coming from under the car (where the exhaust passes across the transmission) and from what I could tell it was because the transmission was too full and ATF was dripping onto the hot exhaust.

But I popped the hood tonight and it seemed like the white smoke was coming from towards the rear of the engine, near the turbo... either that or it was coming from under the car and just floating up next to the exhaust...

This is a freshly rebuilt 7M-GTE which is stock except for an Apexi air intake.

Any ideas?

^ive got something similiar to both of these guys. If i hold RPM @ 2-3k for a few seconds it will start smoking out of the tailpipe, i know its oil because of the coloring and smell. As soon as you let off the gas and let it sit it will stop smoking. I was thinking rings but who knows?

It doesnt smoke on cold starts or after its been sitting for a while, it does smoke under heavy load (boost).

My car doesn't smoke...once it's warmed up...doesn't smoke, but when I drive it for a second, then come to a stop and sit there for longer than 3 seconds, a HUGE puff of smoke comes out...literally, only one. It is enough smoke to embarass the HELL out of me. Then it smokes no more until I come up to another stop. Actually, sometimes, it wont even smoke when I'm stopped. It seems so random.:(

I don't get any smoke, but my engine bay smells like burnt oil all the time. I think the turbo burns a little oil, as occasionally a very small whiff of oil smoke will rise up near the turbo. Doesn't seem to be very bad, but the car does smell like burnt oil a lot.....

On another note, it a turbo "blows" does this mean I could lose all oil pressure in a heartbeat and toast my engine? I've never had one blow on me so I don't know. If so, I guess I need to pull the turbo and have it rebuilt.

well, just means you'll have a lot of smoke and a big mess...I suppose if you ran long enough on a badly blown turbo, you might cause some damage.
