i just bought an HKS wastegate off ebay, and i think its missing parts, but i cant tell as this is my first external wastegate. can you help me out?

it came with gaskets and a dump tube, not shown.

it seems like there should be an adjustment screw in the top and some sort of plate that should go in the top (between the top of the spring and the upper silver housing)

any help is appreciated. thank you

Correct!

There is usually a screw with locknut and a stamped tin plate on top of the spring!

That looks like one monster spring though!
(did they say what it's meant to be?)

No not at all the port beside it is open to atmosphere (you can connect it to the back of the aircleaner or accordian hose as it can suck crap into the diaphram if you want)

Old school way of doing a boost controller was to plumb a regulator into it and say you had a 10 psi spring you would put 5 psi of boost into the back of the diaphram and this would give you 15 lbs boost and so on!

where can you get a regulator like this? and how do you plumb it into it?

Mike: LMAO I did say "Old School" didn't I ;)

There are much better and consistant alternatives available today!

I used to use the standard small air regulators for a compressor.

If you look closely I had one mounted to the trans tunnel between the seats in my Datto! (Black knob below the Silver Brake bias)

That wastegate is exactly like the one I am selling. Mine also have the hole tapped in the middle with no accompanying hardware. I think it is for an optional boost adjustment like IJ mentioned. All you would need is a fender washer that fits nicely inside the wg above the spring, and the correct size/length bolt with locknuts. I will look into adding that to mine. Then you could adjust the boost setting mechanically. I have heard the the only weakness it has is the springs are poor quality (replace with real HKS racing wg spring) and the center shaft needs to be polished a little better. You are missing the gaskets unless you just didn't put them in the picture.

lol old school, yeah ill be using an ebc with this so i should be ok, although some of the springs are still a mystery:icon_conf

edit: and yes, i do have the gaskets, well i have 2, one for the mani to head and one which appears to go between the mani and that plate that goes between the wg and mani. are there other gaskets i need?

found out what the different colors mean for spring rates if anyone wants to know:

1.1 BAR - Black
1.2 BAR - White
1.3 BAR - Silver
1.5 BAR - Yellow
1.6 BAR - Brown

I have one, but only got the spring that was in it, and no spares... Bummer, but I don't plan on changing them out anyway, and I have a EBC to control the boost pressure, so I suppose the springs only set the base boost with the system off. (Mine is the 12psi spring, or would that be 1.2 bar?)

The cool thing is the "HKS" parts work from what I've been told, and read. If you have a diaphram that fails, or springs that fail, HKS parts can save the day.

I still need to tear mine down, polish the valve stem, coat the cast iron housing and the valve face too.

I think the way the "ebay" manifold puts the waste gate with the spring down, away from the heat as much as possible, the spring pressure should hold up better than a top mount where the heat would rise up into the spring housing all the time. Just a thought with no tests to back it up however. :)
