I have an appointment to get my car dyno tested. I wanted them to give the car the once over and see what upgrades should be next. They sugested that they dyno test the car, sounds good to me . When I called a friend of myne to help me drop off the car he asked me if it was dangerous to do this test? If there is a problem with the car or it is not setup corerctly can this hurt the engine. I did not know the answer so I ask you guys.

thanks for the help as I learn...

If there's a problem, then yeah, it's bad.

Obviously, everything must be mechanically sound. If you have any question in the engine's integrity, don't do it.
If you don't mind them running it up to redline a few times, then go for it.

your friend is probably one of those people who "don't beat on their car". "redline is bad" right? meh, fuck'em.
I had a friend like that with an Eclipse... wouldn't actually "drive" his car... just babied it. said revving it high is really bad for it. factories make a rev limit for a reason.

I dont have a problem with them doing it. and the car has been 100% fine. It never runs hot and I allways check fluids, I did tell them the reason I went to them was to get them to install the electronics required to tune the upgrades correctly The prev owner upgraded the "mechanical" parts but did not do any electronic upgrades. We are guessing that its at about 300hp or so, but with what has been done adding the correct electronics would get it closer to 350-400. The guy working on it has an 89 that he is building. He has built the 7m's and knows his stuff...

Dynoing a car is hard on it. However, as mentioned, unless there is something already wrong with it, it won't cause a problem.

If it blows up on the dyno, it was going to blow up anyway.

Don't sweat it.

Or the dyno techie can lean it out -40% across the board and blow your engine up as he watches the a/f go into the 16's......... Then leave you stranded.

It's all better now.

In that case there would be a trip to the emergency room involved for said operator!

thought my engine was sound. Do what I did...

Youre scared of it messing up from redline and such, might be worth just seeing what she really is capable of... before she blows up hahaha (not to scare you Im being serious)

I got rod knock a day after a race with some punk ass kid in a v8. I ran my car to its limit, I dont regret it, I felt like she gave me everything she had right before she died and I whooped his little ass to boot. He called my car a gay japanese piece of shit.... nono, he took his piece of shit home cryin...

my point is, even if it blows up, be proud of what it did...
