First a little intro..

Previous hot rod - 90 Ford Taurus SHO (go ahead, laugh, but if it had a gearbox, it would put most of the MkIII's to shame), 8000rpm, nitrous, T04, Quiaffe, 3400 pound gearbox-eater - RIP.

Current/finished project - 88 BMW 325, 2.7L SuperETA engine, GT28RS, 5000rpm redline, anti-Honda (no HP, but TONS of torque). Was going to do a Project Orca (95-99 M3 E36 engine), but wife likes her Bimmer the way it is.

Past projects - 84 300ZX Turbo, 78 Triumph TR7, 77 Triumph Spitfire 1500, 62 Triumph Vitesse Sports 6, 84 Ford Thunderbird Turbocoupe, 79 Mercury Capri RS Turbo.

OK, so I was looking to get another 300ZXT, and found this 86.5 Supra N/A. PO had the infamous BHG, got all the good parts (have all receipts, and talked to the shop that did the work), but for some reason, reused the stock head bolts. HG is leaking now, but I bought some ARP head studs. $100 for the car, I couldn't pass it up. Interior and exterior look pretty good. No targa, so it's a "light" Supra :biglaugh:

I've been lurking here and on the other forums for a little while, soaking in some info. Now, I need to make some decisions about my Supra. First, I'm going to run it N/A until I get the suspension and brakes upgraded. I may get the Tein SS suspension. Anyone else run this and how do you like it? Any other suspensions I should look at? What swaybars work the best? Bushings?

Now for the brakes... I know the upgrade path for Z31 ZX turbos, but for Supras, I don't have a clue. What's out there?

Once I get the chassis sorted, I will get to the engine. The N/A engine will be history (may use it in a MkII, if my son gets one, he'll be 15 this year). I don't want to start a debate or cause World War 4 or anything (and yes, I have searched here and other forums and googled it also) but I haven't decided which gte I should go with, 7M or 1JZ? What I am looking for is 400-500whp. I know both engines can get there, but in different ways. I know I'll need the R154 gearbox, either way I go. I'm kind of leaning towards the 1JZ, because I love screaming high redlines, but the 7M is screaming TORQUE, and I love that also. I guess the info I'm looking for here is those of you that have 1JZ swaps, what do you like and dislike about it? Those with the 7M's, well, what would you change or upgrade first? Finally, those that have both, what are the pros/cons of both engines? If this would best be served by PM'ing me this info, or where I could find it would be great. Price is not too much of a concern, and parts availablity is of no importance as to which engine I go with (ever try getting parts for a 62 Triumph Vitesse? UK only, as there are less than 300 that survive in the US, and low 4-digits the rest of the world).

Sorry, such a long post, next time I won't write a novel :icon_bigg
