My intake hose has a hole in it so it needs to be replaced. I was going to just order a new factory intake hose but my local muffler shop can sell me a manderal bent 3 inch aluminum pipe with silicone connectors for less than the cost of ordering the factory piece and I figure the pipe would compliment the HKS SMF air filter that I already have. My only concern is what do I do with the 3 vaccum hoses the connect to the factory intake hose? I am not sure what will happen if I just plug them and I don't know if it is possible to have nipples welded onto the pipe. Has anyone made a pipe and come across this problem? If so what did you do?

I replaced my intake hose not too long ago. I bought a 96-00 civic intake pipe at a local import store. I have an NA so I only needed 1 vaccum hose coming from the pipe. the intake pipe itself had 2 pre-welded nipples on it, one large and one small. I blocked off the large one with the rubber blocker that came with the pipe, and used the smaller one for my vaccum line.

Was there a noticable difference in performance after you installed the pipe?

not really no. it is a little louder from the engine bay, but not like you hear on civics and everything. its because we have the MAF that basically eliminates that sweet intake sound that everyone wants. if you want to get that sound, extend the pipe BEFORE the MAF, to lead to the filter, and put the filter under the headlight or something. that way you can get that sound. because right now the air goes in the filter and then directly to the MAF, cutting out that sound.

I welded up my own 3" intake pipe to compensate for the lexus afm, and i just welded on two nipples for the pcv and the iac I didn't put the the bov one on because I have a Greddy Type RS one.
