If the stock Throttlebody is so restrictive, why do people bother upgrading their intakes, or changing out their filters? Is it just to get a new filter to keep things clean, or do they actually think it will help performance (or will it really help performance)? Just wondering.

Why do people put cat-back exhaust on there car, and not a whole thing?

Same type of question here, and IMO people arnt looking for wicked performance out of a simple mod.

Its been dyno'ed that on NA's you DO get X hp from an intake system. Is it worth it? Idk, but it would certainly be better with a larger throttle body, and ported manifold...

a peice of 3 inch diameter 12 inch long tube to get rid of that intake resonator is like what 10-20 bucks? thats what ima do. CAI prolly makes better power but i live in florida and it rains like crazy everyday for like 2-3 months. so who knows if a CAI would be safe on my car.

As I recall a member on here had the 7M's set up analyzed for flow rates.

The filter made a small difference, but the AIRBOX was much more restrictive. So by getting a FIPK from K&N or the Apexi' cone filter or the like, you remove the stock airbox and its restrictive properties.

As for the catback, is the stock muffler not restrictive? I would wager that it is. While I totally agree with s383mm about the exhaust being MUCH better when replaced as a whole, I would think you would see at least a small gain with just a catback that included a better flowing muffler.

Not to mention a better sound in most cases.

Once I figure out exactly how to do a new exhaust with my cali set-up or get rid of the cali set-up, I'll hopefully get new piping from the block back. If i get lazy and cheap, it may have to just be a catback.

Iirc, the turbo and n/a throttle bodies are the same diameter. On the turbo model it might make a difference, but on the n/a I wouldn't sweat it. What I would do is try to make a CAI that is as short as possible. Thought about putting it in the fender behind the tire, to make a straight, short, cai. Just haven't figured out how to vent the outside of the fender correctly so that the filter wouldn't be getting a lot of road mist when it's raining. There's enough room in there to do it, and use a decent sized filter as well, but it would require moving a brace. Would have to move the afm, and extend the harness, or just go MaftPro. That would be the other restriction I'd solve before the t.b., the stock afm.
