What good are insurance companies? The whole concept of what they do is just a load of crap to me...unless I really missed something. From what I understand you pay the company a certain amount of money a year, an amount that they determine to be fair from statistics based upon your person and persons like you. Then you get in an accident and depending on the type of coverage you have "they pay" for it. But what I don't understand is when you get a speeding ticket they don't pay that - but if you recieve points on your license your rate goes up. And subsequently, everyone else that fits your description. To me having insurance gives people an excuse to drive like idiots. I mean, if someone had to pay outright for any damages they cause to someone else and themselves then I think they would be a little more cautious when driving. They wouldn't just go flying down the road eating their cheeseburger, drinking their starbucks and racking up minutes on the phone while trying to get to work on time, because if anything happens..."Oh, insurance will pay for it." It gives people a false sense of security, because in the end you will pay for having an accident or getting a speeding ticket, either by your insurance rates going up and/or your license being revoked. Stupid.
For those wondering I am 19, my parents pay my insurance so my name is not on the Supra, but I did pay for it and all the modifications. I have had 2 speeding tickets and 2 tickets(went to court ended up with no points) for a modified exhaust (55.00 fine ea. no points). I did hit a deer, but that was in my brothers Grand Prix. My brother has had 1 speeding ticket, and has been T-boned because he ran a redlight. Our insurance company is dropping my entire family: '87 Supra, '94 Grand Prix, '96 F150 and a 2000 Avalon. All cars are under my parents names. With me listed as the primary driver of the Supra, my brother the GP, dad the Ford and moms got the Avalon. I'm guessing we are being dropped because of me and my brother as my parents haven't had a wreck or ticket in over 20 years. This sucks.
