Installing tach on a 1JZ?

Whre do you tap into in order to install a tach in a 1JZ?
I have an autometer tach that I would like to install mostly for the shift light but also for the larger face. Any tips welcomed.

on the smaller plug of the ignitor.

You can also get it from the spade connector on the check connector plug.

you can also grab it in the glovebox off of one of the body harness plugs. If I recall correctly, it is a green with black wire.

The black wire with the red dots coming off the ignitor is the stock signal going to the stock tach.

That's the one I've ordered. Is there something mechanically not right with the monster tach? If there is I need to know so that I can cancel my order.

No...he's just jealous because he knows how tight your ride is gonna look w/ a big tach on the dash.

The 1jz doesn't need a monster tach or a shift light, just keep the pedal on the floor and let the rev limiter take care of it!

I'm getting one too for my 83. I have to. The stock tach only goes to 8,000 RPM....... how lame.

Not very many cars in '83 saw 8,000 RPM. At least not many street cars.

Stock tach is slow anyways. I thought that my rev-limiter was only 7000 when it was really 7500.

As half-ebarrased as I am to admit it, I do have the 5 inch tach with shift light.
Reason being is that I dont want the rev limit to hit and slow down the "run" If I tune the shift light just right, it will go off right where I should be shifting so I dont delay. Ive hit the rev limit 2 times now unexpectedly, and it really jerks you up and delays the shift to the next gear.
Only problem is where to install it. There doesnt seem to be a good place to install it without it looking really stupid.

Well yeah, you guys installed that 15 inch Tanabe exhaust tip on my car, thats a bit ricer-nesse...lol. Its grown on me though haha..was a surprise when I first walked in on it though. But someone at work has a different tanabe on his mk3 and it looks rather odd and funny so im glad I got this one.

don't worry about hitting to rev limit. the engine pretty much dies after 6000rpm so you'll need to shift well before you hit it. if you get cams, then it will be a different story.
