Did the front shocks and lower ball joints today. While I was there I noticed the inner tire rods have some play in them, and the rack moves a tad when you apply a force to it. the boots on it are shot and it's leaking p/s fluid out. the outer tie rods look good, no play, but if I'm doing everything I'll do them for peace of mind. Where is the best place to get a rack & pinion? I'm gonna use some Moog Inner/outer Tie rods b/c I'm happy with the lower ball joints from them.

From what I've heard new R&P is gonna be expensive. See if you can get it rebuilt, or find a junkyard mk3.

Hmm... wonder if anyone around here in tampa does that. this is the biggest, most non-productive city i've seen. I rebuilt my 4runner's Power steering pump. Looks like I'll just buy a rebuild kit and probly do it myself.

ok, I'll search around. How do I know if I have the electronic Variable Orfice one or not? we have a 90T Auto.

Autozone: $350evo/$275
Napa: Not available
Parts america: $340 either model
Tropical: $318?? quote last week for evo

Gonna call CarQuest and Pepboys on Monday and verify the tropical quote again. and I'll check at work... Advance Auto. I want that front end done and the car aligned ASAP.

I believe you do have a PPS rack, being that it is a 90 turbo.
Check to see if there is a small vacuum hose coming off the bottom of the accordian hose and going to the power steering pump itself.

If so, then you do have Progressive Power Steering.
