injector ticking vs rod knock noise

Hey guys,

I finally had the Tanabe exhaust installed and now I hear some engine noises. When I had the straight pipe, it sounded like injector ticking (if you're familiar w/ current model Toyota ticking sounds) but now I think it may be rod knock.

I've never heard rod knock, so I'm wondering if anyone could describe (or link me to a sound file) how it sounds. I am hearing something similar to really loud injector ticking w/ a slightly metal "kink" here and there.

You hear the ticking noise at idle?

Most likely if it happened immediately after the exhaust was put on, it is an exhaust leak. Check your gaskets and all exhaust piping. Also check bolt tightness.

If not...injector ticking is exactly that. Rod knock is a knock. it almost sounds like a diesel engine knock. It usually starts off making noise at 2000-3000 rpm. Feather the gas at that rpm.

Thanks for the info guys. Funny thing... the noise is gone now (about 1:00 PM w/ hot Los Angeles weather). I'll be monitoring this for a while to see if it actually is a problem. Lucky I don't drive hard haha
