Alright, I've almost done with my 1jz swap but I havn't been able to really find what exactly I'm supposed to do right after finishing the swap. This is right before turning the key. I heard that I should remove the EFI fuse and crank the car in order to get the turbos oiled?

Also what oil should I be using for the startup since the motor has been sitting for quite a while. Since the motor has been sitting for a long time, I want to run some crappy oil and transmission oil and flush them after 500-1000 miles to get rid of junk in there. Would there be problems running synthetic after that? I'll probably run Mobil 1 10W-30 and Redline MT-90 after I drain the motor.

I'm so anxious to get this thing running, I havn't driven the supe in like a month and i'm sad, plus I've never really driven a turbocharged car before so this'll be tons of fun :naughty:..........after its done lol.

yea im just using some napa 5w30 oil in my supra for the 1st few hundred miles. i actually changed the motor oil once already. as soon as i started it i let it run for a few minutes then shut her down and changed the oil. yea u should disconnect the efi so u and crank it over a bit to get oil to the turbos and fuel to the rail..... i forgot to do this to b honest when i cranked mines over but it didn't hurt anthing.

you changed the oil right after running for a couple of minutes after the first startup? is that a good idea, or a waste of oil? doesn't seem like a bad idea knowing how long this thing has been sitting

i would let it idle for 15 min or so then drain the oil. Then fill and change filter (not in that order) and then drive it for a few hundred miles. Do it again then keep a steady oil changing schedule.

Guys..this is not a brand new or rebuilt engine. What's the use of starting and then draining the oil after 15 minutes???

Alex, prime it for a few turns with the ecu fuse out, then start it up. Have all fluids handy to top off. My suggestion is to use regular oil 5W30 -. Mobil one would be okay and 5 weight will lubricate faster at startup. Zero weight is probably the best.
The first startup will be pretty rough whne you drive it around. valves will be sticky from sitting so long. As you drive a few miles, you will see the cars idling and performance change .
I would drive around for 500 miles on that oil then change it. You did not open the heads or anything so there is no need to flush anything...

I would use Mobil 1 clean 5000 5w30 and drive it for 500 miles and then change to syn oil after. As for the tranny, use regular gl-5 gear oil and drive it around and then change with red line mt90.

OK
i would pour some oil on the cams and let it drip down then prime it until oil comes out of the oil feed lines to the turbos but you have to have the feeds disconnected to know for sure that your turbos are getting oil. just use cheap oil and flush it out really quickly after you drive it for a couple of minutes, just so the motor and trans is hot. after the cheap fluids then put the good stuff in.

..

Exactly...... Are you going to trust not knowing who ever or where ever that motor originally came from last? For all we know there could be dirt in there somewhere needing a good flush out.

Engine and tranny had fluid in it. Im sure it was drained just recently. Why would someone stuff dirt in it before selling it to him??? That is just stupid. I've seen this engine in person and the first day it arrived and that is what I am basing my recommendations on.
If there is sludge, running it for 5 minutes and draining the fluid will not remove it. It has to be driven arround, warmed up and soaked internally before it can loosen up and drained, so what better way than to drive it for a few hundred miles to accomplish this ?????
If it was a fresh rebuild, then maybe you can do a quick flush.

Im not talking about him specificly.. Im talking about in generally you do not know the history of the motor nor where and how it was taken cared of/ handled. Maybe they left the oil cap off in the open on a windy day full of dust, or left it in a warehouse with high humidity so that tiny bits of rust can form inside......... Not saying every seller does that but eh you know.

You get my point. Better safe then I told you so.

well since we're on-topic, i just rebuilt my 7MGE's head, how should I prep my motor before i try to start it up? aznwaterboy said something about removing the EFI fuse so that i can cycle some oil through, how do i do that? is there anything else recommended?

(sorry if i'm trying to jack the thread, but you guys pretty much answered his question anywayzzzz)
