I remember reading some time ago spark plugs should look (AFAIR) with their gap toward exhaust valves. What is the reason for that? Better cooling of plug end ?

Indexing spark plugs

In the old days we indexed towards the Intake valve but I think it was all a bit of a placebo effect and didn't actually do much of anything Vlad! 
The placebo effect...makes ya feel good and you can brag to your buddies "my spark plugs are even indexed" :biglaugh:
Ian, maybe toward intake valves, don't remember. I think I have read somewhere excerpts from Dr.Jacobs book, it was explained there
I'd hazard a guess that indexing towards the exhaust is a forced induction thing to shield the Spark from the incoming charge!

The only time I could see indexing making a difference is if there was a swirl direction in the chamber on the power stroke, even then I still think it would be unmeasurable on a dyno.
