Motor is shot . I raced a sw20 on the way to Intec racing today and threw a rod:cry: . Good thing is I am getting a good used long block:icon_surp Besides the obivious ( well maybe not so ,Hence the need to post this in the first place) what can I do to prevent this from happening again. I am planning on using me MHG and studs from my bad block . Will the be a problem? What else should I do while I have the block out . I already did the head gasket fun . That most likely caused the Rod to go in the first place.

No, just a moron owner . I think I had a oil leak from the head gasket not sealing correctly because I didn't use any RTV . Which caused rod tap, racing that Mr2 just pushed a tap into a full blown knock . Thus proving the quote that the major flaw in the 7m is the owner. Also I am not sure that I got all the oil from the BHG out. So I am sure that didn't help the situation any. Well the good thing is I got her home and my wife isn't really pissed and I get to upgrade the engine . A very costly lesson I am afraid but at least I learned it.

I don't think you're supposed to use rtv on the metal headgaskets.

^ Nope you aren't supposed to

Either put it on dry if it's new (has viton coating on it), or if it's completely clean use brake quiet!

The rod knock was either caused by low oil, or water in the oil can cause it too.

To prevent it from happening again, always run +1 quart, check your oil every day, and blueprint your motor! Make sure your bearing clearances are good, and don't cheap out on any part of the oiling system!

I'm guessing I won't be seeing you at the Show & Shine tomorrow? :biglaugh:
Sorry I had to do it ;)

I put two small dabs of RTV where the headgasket overlaps the inside timing cover things (not sure exactly what they're called), but no where near the cylinders/water passages/oil holes. I never had a problem doing so.

Show us some pics of the damage plz?

You are not suppose to, but you are recomended to ;)
Maybe, You should use this time better bearings (Clevite's) and maybe also use this oportunity and go forged? :naughty:

This is correct.
To my knowledge, (metal head gasket or otherwise) if you don't put a couple of dabs of some kind of sealent (I use RTV) on the front part of the head where it contacts the timing cover...you gots a leaky mofo!

Put a new oil pump in your motor while it's out and run it with an extra quart of oil.

Yeah will be doing that the motor I am going to put back in will just have a metal head gasket and studs . Going to replace both main seals as well. Maybe the oil line kit. Other then that it will be stock boost and easy driving till winter time . Meanwhile I will tear done block #1 and send it to the machine shop for the once over . Replace everything with forged parts and Arp hardware . You know all the usual Build up stuff. If anyone wants to list some stuff for this thats cool if not I will just search it out my self. it is all here

I will Nate , My wife got a car loan for me to get a daily looked at a 01 IS300 today thinking I might let the supra sleep the rest of the year and get other stuff done . Reuploster(sp) interior , replace carpet, fix loose trim , ect. I dont really know for sure what I am going to do . Other then keep the car I dont know . I do realize that I need to get a daily because I don't want to depend on my supra as my only means of transportation . But haven't made up my mind yet
