hey so im getting around 11-12 mpg for my 7mgte. I have bpu and a little more on my car if that matters and im not boosting much. what kind of mpg are you guys getting? if theres something wrong with my car, what do you think it is? my car is slightly overheating because of a bad radiator atm (i have a very nice aftermarket one in my room waiting to be installed when i have time), but im not too sure if that effects mpg. THANKS! Oh and im also getting low oil pressure reading.

Well 11mpg is pretty bad, first of check for codes then if there is nothing there start by replacing the O2 sensor then a do a basic tune up

If no fuel leaks is obvious, or no smell of fuel / fumes, then it's very possible that your inj. are leaking.

ah ok..my o2 sensor is only being held in by one bracket at the moment..what are codes?

what are the symptoms for leaky injectors other than bad mpg? I can smell some fumes coming out of the hood of the car. but they cant be smelled when im driving..and i can only see them at night . White fumes come out of the hood of my car.

Really dude? Need to do some serious reading. Maybe make a video of this white smoke out of the hood? This just sounds really odd.

oh shit i think the fumes are gone. i think it was just coolant that was on some stuff cuz i flushed my radiator. or maybe something in the new downpipe I installed. but yea whatever it was it burned off. but, i am getting a new gasket to hold my o2 sensor in place and hopefully that will fix things..OH I REPLACED MY RADIATOR TOO SO ITS NOT OVERHEATING ANYMORE! YAY FOR MEEE HAHAHAHA. but yea i need to do some serious reading fo sho.

I'm getting about 14mpg in town, right now my timing is at 5 degrees before tdc. I think that's is the reason I'm getting bad fuel economy and I'm running pretty rich at full boost, every one tells me that when I get on it there is a decent gray/black cloud coming from my exhaust. Maybe your timing is off like mine is.

changing timing is easy if you have a distributor. you just need a timing light. but you guys have the 7mgte which has a coil pack so it might have something to do with a crank sensor or cam sensor to change the timing on those. not sure which or how.

I'm pretty sure the 7mgte only has a cam position sensor, but I could be wrong. Checking your timing is the same for both kinds of ignition though, so I would suggest you start there and see if your timing is off.

Basic timing on a 7MGTE is fairly simple.

1) Jumper T1/E1 (T/E1 in some) in the Diagnostic Block behind the battery/fuse box
2) Hook up timing light (use #1 spark plug wire)
3) Start the car
4) Point the timing light at the top of the crank pulley
5) Loosen 12mm bolt on the Crank Position Sensor
6) Turn CPS until the mark on the crank pulley points to 10
7) Tighten CPS bolt
8) Remove the jumper

Cam timing is a bit of a pain though.

And timing lights are relatively cheap nowadays. ~$40 for the 'basic' and ~$100 for a digital. Basic is all you need for a 7M.

^^^ true dat, last time I tried to time the car I spent about an hour trying to get it right with the cps and the best I could do was 5deg. BTDC, maybe my cps is off a tooth?

I've noticed you can run into being only capable of +5 or +15 degrees when your cams are 180* out of phase. Make sure you remove the timing cover to verify the cam notches are aligned with the back cover since the cams rotate one revolution per two revolutions of the crankshaft.

EDIT: I get 29+ mpg highway (and out of boost).

if they were 180deg. out then wouldn't it not start because spark would come when nothing would ignite, please explain this to me if I'm wrong, but I worked on an old fiat in which the timing was off 180 degrees and it wouldn't start. Putting the engine together I made sure the timing marks lined up with the dust cover, so it shouldn't be that.

I'm saying if you removed your CPS and then tried to bring the crank pulley mark to 0*, you have a 50% chance your CPS is 180* out of phase with your cams. Your engine will still run due to the waste spark of the coilpacks firing 1&6, 2&5, and 3&4.
