I'm a little concerned.

Cory and I picked his supra up from the mechanics today. They rebuilt his turbo feed/drain lines, wrapped his manifold, a few minor other things, and put his turbo back on after a fresh rebuild from PT.

On the way home I noticed at a stop light, when I would give the engine a bit of gas I would also see a significant amount of oil. The car has an open downpipe that ends right as it curves parallel to the ground. The really concerning part came when I stopped in his parking lot to go open the garage. There was alot of oil coming from seemingly everywhere. I popped the hood and it wasn't POURING out, but it was coming out pretty heavy.

I'm wondering if this is something that could be expected from a new (fresh build) turbo? I really cannot imagine so, but I'm not very educated on turbos.

I called the shop and they said that they ran the engine for half an hour to burn off the shit from the heat wrap and didn't notice any oil at all. That was pretty much it, they were not very helpful.

I was going to call PT and ask what their option was but they were closed for the day.

Does anyone have any ideas? I did not have much time once we got back to his place and the oil started up pretty good, so I do not have much more information than what I've already provided.

He recently had head work done, and did a compression test that yielded ~170 all across the board, so the engine should be in great shape...

Ideas ?

could be as simple as not putting the drain line on correctly... and then of course it leaks once you LEAVE the shop... haha

its hard to tell you anything though because like drew said, we need to know from where.

Sounds like the turbo oil lines to me...it's amazing how much oil will flow out of a -3 feed line ;)

Alright, I took a look under the car earlier today and there is no oil. I would think if there is a oil leak big enough to cause so much smoke then at lesat a little would drip after the car's off. I'd think.

There's no oil at all.

I guess the hunt will continue once he gets back into town.

Soooo...all that oil you spoke about in the 1st post was actually smoke?

Did you see any liquid oil at all in the 1st incident?

it might be the wrap still... or if they coated other parts, you'd be suprised how much comes off of it, and it doesnt take THAT much oil to cause a smoke screen...

I just re-read my post and it didn't convey what I was trying to communicate at all.

I did not see any liquid oil, no. I assumed it was oil based on the color and smell.

Now that there is zero oil on the ground, I would, again, assume its either come from inside the engine, or not oil (its blueish and smells like oil...).

heh, I put wrap on my DP over a year ago and every once an a whlie the stuff still smokes.

I am kind of at a stand still at the moment anyway, Cory is out of town and I dont' have access to his car so all I can do is theorize.

I also need to check out his PCV system, I think its just setup with a can leading to the intake pipe and the valve covers.
